Mia Sheridan has written a wonderful debut novel! It is one of those books that is hard to write a review for simply because I do not want to give anything away. If you have not read Leo do yourself a favor and skip the reviews until you have read the book. Stop. Right. Here. Yes, stop. Go buy the book. Read. Trust me, you will thank me later.

Leo tells the tale of Evie and Leo, two children who grew up in the foster care system. They both have survived terrible upbringings and upon meeting one another in the system they became an anchor for one another. It was a relationship that began as a friendship and then deepened into a very sweet young love. At the age of fifteen Leo gets adopted and ends up moving across the country with his new family leaving Evie behind. Before his departure Leo and Evie meet one last time where Leo professes his love and promises to write her and come for her when she turns eighteen. That was the last time Evie heard from Leo.
Eight years have now passed and Evie has worked hard to accomplish something with her life. Despite the fact that Evie plays it safe, she has found respectable work, rents an apartment and has a quiet and fulfilling life - even if it is a little lonely. One of the things that I loved about Evie was her sincerity and goodness. The life that she was dealt did not turn her bitter nor did it ruin her. She is beautiful, caring and she is genuinely kind. Evie meets Jake one day. He is a stranger who has been stalking/following her and doing a very poor job with the task. Evie finally confronts her "stalker" only to discover that Jake was asked by Leo to check up on her and make sure she is alright. Evie is initially shocked to even be faced with someone who knew the boy she loved and never heard from again. Jake is not shy about making his interest known and begins pursuing Evie romantically. As their relationship progresses, secrets are revealed and there are some twists and turns that occur. I will say no more because I really do not want to spoil things for other readers. I was truly delighted with this book. Mia Sheridan has written a thoughtful love story that will have your little heart pitter-pattering. Leo is a beautiful book about a young girl who loses much but ends up having her dreams come true in the end. It is also a story about being hurt by the people you love and trust the most and learning to move past that, forgive and find a HEA. It is truly a beautiful tale and one that I am very glad I picked up and read.

I had roamed the arena for far too long, roaring and bellowing, believing that I wasn’t brave enough to leap through fire. But all along, she had stood there, constant and calm. "I can't make the fire go away," she had seemed to say. "I can't guarantee you won't get burned. But I can hold this hoop for you, I can remain steady and strong, because I believe in you.
