Let’s say you want to make sure you don’t miss any important documents and/or emails being sent through our mcconnell.ms, google app, account and you tend to keep Lotus Notes open all day long. Why not simply forward your mcconnellms.org email to your Notes mailbox? To accomplish this you will first, log in to your mcconnellms.org, gmail account and click on the little gear in the upper right portion of the screen so that the drop-down menu appears like this:

Now you must fight the urge to play around with all the cute options and instead click on “Settings”. That will bring up a large dialog box with several menu items at the top of the box. Right in the middle is the catchy phrase “Forwarding and POP/IMAP”. (For those who prefer English, this translates into “Forwarding and Post Office Protocol/Internet Message Access Protocol”.) In either case, if you click on that phrase, you will be rewarded with the following window:

Now you will click on the box labeled “Add a forwarding address” and enter the email address you want to forward to in the dialog thusly:

Then confirm your command by clicking “Proceed”.

You must then go to your Notes mailbox and wait for the permission slip to be sent. (You didn’t think they were just going to let you send email to any old person without getting permission did you?)

Look what’s waiting in my Lotus Notes mailbox:

Open the email and click on the link or copy and paste the confirmation code (highlighted below) into the box labeled “Verify” in the settings menu of your gmail inbox (Second image below). Either way, you should be done. In the future I’ll send directions for creating and using filters to manage your inbox in both Notes and gmail. Happy IMAP-ing!
