Read “Monster Mess” from Deanna Jump’s Back to School Math and Literacy Fun. Discuss what happens to colors when they are mixed. Tell children that RED, BLUE, and YELLOW are Primary colors. When these colors are mixed, they create new colors called Secondary Colors. ! The Cover page and Page 1 can be colored or painted. ! Put a dollop of paint on the monster faces. Children use their fingers to mix. Let each face dry. I give my students watercolor paints to use on the last page. We sing the order of the rainbow colors and they are instructed to use the proper order of the colors to paint the Rainbow monster face. When dry, students can add details with crayons, ribbons, wiggle eyes, scraps of paper, ribbon…….
