2012-DE-37 ANTL e.V. The ANTL is a regionally working non-govermental organisation. Our aim is the conservation, protection and development of the natural landscape. This gives living habitat for rare and endangered animals and plants. We realize this especially by • manual work in the landscape to get a good state of preservation and to develop biotopes such as wet and humid grassland, moors, small lakes and rivers, pollared willows… These works are mainly realised in the area of the Natura 2000 programme of the European Union. • giving information to the public on the particularity and the biological value of specific and rare animals, plants and landscape • acting as lobbyists to influence the government and the policy • periodical meeting groups of children, young people and elder people engaged in themes of nature protection • environment education for school classes and other interested groups of people in different ages The tasks for the volunteer can and may be very different and depend on their specific skills. Normally the volunteer gets the first general view of the activities and then we decide together what they will do. Nearly most of the time the volunteer will work together with other people. The main activities will be done in the project “Manual activities concerning the conservation and development of the natural landscape”. This work will be done in a group of young people. The tasks are different depending on the season. In summer there is e. g. helping to cut the grassland, repairing fences, … in autumn there is gathering apples to make natural apple juice, in autumn and winter there is to eliminate bushy trees out of the moors, in spring there is to work at the fruit-trees and preparing the grassland. All the year long there is helping at the herd of sheep. The volunteer has to be conscious, that this work is carried out outside in the landscape and it is physically strenuously. Some tasks can be done in our project “Environment Education”. The volunteer can help to organize and carry out periodically meeting groups of children and young people for environment activities and environment education. This can be done in one afternoon in the week and in summer we realize a nature camp for ten days for about 30 children at the age from 9 to 12 years. An example for the timetable of a normal week: - normally 3 days working in the landscape ( 7.00 am – 15.45 pm ) - Friday afternoon meeting with children groups - language course (may be in the evening) - sometimes there will be work at the weekend - the volunteer can work more during one week (or some weeks), so that in other weeks he can do less. The basic is the manual work in the landscape. Further there are many possibilities and choices. They depend on the personal interests and specific skills of the volunteer. This will change during the stay with respect to the season and the increase of personal competence.

2012-DE-109 Offene Ganztagsgrundschule Lotte The open all-day elementary school in Lotte has not had any European volunteers yet. However, we had a Chinese trainee in March 2011, who completed an internship as a part of a language course. It was nice to watch, that was not only the trainee, but also the children and the staff of the all- day school benefited from learning about another culture and also from the introduction of new language skills. This meeting is one of our main motivation points. In fact we expect from the European volunteer that we reach this cultural exchange like with the trainee. In addition, we hope to get a better support key for the children. Since we have at our school many children with an immigrant background, it could be for the children after the experience with the Chinese intern valuable experience that even people of other cultures belong to the team. The service is open from Monday to Friday from 11:30 - 16:30 clock for 88 primary school children registered from the age of 6-10. The volunteer can participate in all areas of open all-day elementary school and help with their skills accordingly. Homework, playing games together outdoors and indoors, sports activities, food preparation, projects and workshops, insights into the work with parents. They learn how to deal with teaching the children and the cross-cultural background of the children. They can bring here certainly a lot of understanding of their own cultural background. The volunteer will be integrated as an equal member of the team, but does not bear full responsibility. To make their work easier all regular manual talks would be held by the institution. They get more feedback from both the children and the team. The volunteer can sometimes assist the regular school lessons and get to know like this the German educational system. It is important for us the volunteer explore the world together with the children in many different and individual ways. The volunteer will also be encouraged to contribute their own ideas, creativity and experience in the development of the project. This could be personal preference, and country-specific priorities and interests to serve. For example, a project to the home country, a cooking class, music, sports projects, etc. Wth their activity and the new experiences, the volunteer has the opportunity to meet many strengths and abilities to discover themselves and to develop and acquire more self-confidence. The volunteer learns to deal with humans, they work in the team, by many discussions they can improve clearly the foreign language knowledge. Depending on the needs the volunteer receives at the beginning of the EVS German lessons, for example, in a language school. A typical day could look like this: 10.30 - 11.30 - Team meeting 11.30 - 12.00 -Welcoming children 12.00 - 12.30 - Attendance at free game / supervision at the school yard 12.30 - 14.00 - Attendance at lunch 14.00 - 15.00 - Cooperation in the daily homework assistance, participation in projects and individual supporting measures: music, media, school-newspaper, cooking and backing etc. Execution or participation at school projects/ activities. 15.00 - 16.00 - Own project 16.00 - 16.30 - Reflection, closing time

2012-DE-33 Wespe e.V. For six years the wasp registered association takes up an European volunteer, just in the open complete day school there are very good possibilities of mutual becoming acquainted, of " spreading of the European thought, becoming acquainted with different cultures and reducing prejudices, and/or fears of "foreigners". Good is also the switching of knowledge of a language. The support on five working days in the time between 11.30 a.m. - 16.30 p.m. of primary school children at the age of 6 - 10 years. The support contains the except-school range, the homework, participation in projects and individual supporting measures as well as the participation in meals. The volunteer learns to deal with humans, they work in the team, by many discussions they can improve clearly the foreign language knowledge. The volunteer has the possibility of accompanying or also offering for the pupils some projects e.g. within the sports range. They can let their personal preferences and emphasis flow here: e.g. the volunteers have offered there: - a music project - a school newspaper provider - View of their homeland - Sport project e.g. Volleyball - Cooking and baking projects Those are only some examples. Here can the volunteer develop their own ideas. The volunteer works in the team and transfers many educational tasks, which also do the coworkers in the open all-day primary school.

2011-DE-45 Berufskolleg Tecklenburger Land des Kreises Steinfurt Our school is the vocational college "Tecklenburger Land". As a public school we offer lessons of secondary education in the areas of technology, home economics, social work and design in the dual system and in the full time system up to high school. We have about 2400 students and 111 teachers in our school. Our students come from the whole area of the district "Tecklenburger Land". Our school offers the volunteer the work environment of a professionally-equipped vocational college. The applicant will work in the field of design technology and the canteen operation. There is a variety of services and learning opportunities. In addition to learning about workflow in the graphic area and in the canteen operation, the volunteer can experience in dealing with students and a teacher team. Working on external jobs e.g. for the district of Steinfurt and the cultural center of "Kloster Gravenhorst" offers another interesting perspective. Furthermore, it is possible to attend a German lesson to improve language skills. The volunteer will support the design technology area and school canteen operations. In addition to working in a team it will be expected after the training period to work independently. We would be glad, wenn the volunteer just confidentially the role of an "ambasodor" for intercultural meetings in support of their own ideas and skills can overtake. Possible activities: • Independent making of media such as graphics, banners, printing, e.g. on a big plotter, working with PC-based graphics software, working with a laser for cutting and engraving, taking care of the photo studio, editing of aschool brochure • Co-organization of school projects, assisting in preparations for a student exchange/school trip, Accompanying a school trip into the country of origin, cultural evening • Offering e.g. a language workshop in the language of the home country, workshop for cooking recipesof the country of origin, a photography club, etc. • Support of the school canteen operation like for example decorations, selling, preparation of meal plans, Introduction of recipes from the country of origin.
