LILIEN FINESS DESIGN | 2ND GENERATION INFORCE YOGA
THE DESIGNER German entrepreneur and fashion designer Lilien Stenglein founded her Berlin-based label Lilien Finess Design in 2016. She is working in the intersection between technology and fashion and approaches her collections with an interdisciplinary perspective and business background. Since her debut at the Fashion Tech Berlin in June 2016, the Inforce Yoga Collection was exhibited at the Long Nights of the Startups, Munich Fabric Start, Design Week Turkey as well as in the L&T Mall in Osnabrück. THE CONCEPT Now covering all chakras on the torso, smart textiles are an essential part of the second generation Inforce Yoga collection. Odour-neutralizing, silver-based material is integrated under the armpits and in the lining of the pockets where it protects from electric radiation caused by mobile phones. Cool bamboo jersey is used to increase haptic feeling on the skin. For a visual impact, all of the materials are laser-engraved with a pattern inspired by the geometric signs that symbolize chakra points. LINA WASSONG | SYMBIOSIS DRESS
LINA WASSONG | SYMBIOSIS DRESS
THE DESIGNER Berlin-based engineer and designer Lina Wassong first became inspired to explore the aesthetic aspects of technology while living in San Francisco, the capital of tech. Wassong’s designs seek innovative ways of changing the analogue world into a digital environment. Apart from her work in the field of fashion design, she also publishes books and shares her passion for electronics through organized workshops. THE CONCEPT Lina Wassong’s Symbiosis dress is an homage to the beautiful natural phenomenon in which two species share the same habitat and benefit from each other. With the wearer and the integrated electronics symbolically connected, the piece is a combination of delicate design and advanced software technology. Through the seamless interface, the wearer can shift the microcontroller from “listening“ into “observing“ mode and watch the dress change as it reacts to the surrounding environment. The Technology Laser cutting and 3D printing with Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) that allows high-resolution prints in complex shapes give the design its final touch.

LAURA HUGHES & BIANCA CHENG COSTANZO X PLASTIC LOGIC
| THE SINGE COAT
THE DESIGNER Bianca Cheng Costanzo is a former Apple designer and a veteran of the MIT Media Lab who explores the integration of the digital into our daily lives. Born in São Paulo, Brazil to a Chinese mother and Italian father, she has lived and worked all over the world and now calls Berlin home. Laura Hughes is a contemporary fashion designer; originally from the mountains of Virginia, she moved to Chicago for design studies and is now living in Berlin. Her sculptural creations are concept-driven and explore how clothing influences the way we perceive ourselves and others. THE CONCEPT The Singe Coat is a reaction to modern conspicuous consumption. The E-ink flame animations in the pockets are a vivid reference to the idiom “burning a hole in your pocket”, which points to the impatient and frivolous spending. Made using low-power, paper-like E-ink displays that are now being developed for the ready-to-wear market, the coat is a synergy between conceptual design and the latest technology. THE TECHNOLOGY It employs an ultra-thin, lightweight, and glass-free flexible E-ink display manufactured by Plastic Logic Germany. The wearable display platform integrated into the coat was developed by TEN Electronics, a Moscow-based company focused on low-energy solutions in the field of flexible electronics for both professional and consumer markets. LAYLA MUELLER | THE SYMA LINE
LAYLA MUELLER | THE SYMA LINE
THE DESIGNER The daughter of a New York Broadway actress and a German stage manager, Layla Mueller grew up behind the scenes of a huge cultural industry that inspired her enthusiasm for costumes and design. After gathering fashion experience in New York in 2014, Mueller completed an international semester in Finland in 2015 and at the same time took on the position of Assistant Producer at the first Helsinki Fashion Week. She received her Bachelor of Arts in fashion design at the beginning of 2016 and will receive her Master’s degree in 2017 at the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. THE CONCEPT The Syma Line visualizes sound by using a range of innovative techniques to give each outfit a different character. The project aims to explore the symbiosis between music, fashion and science, showcasing the evidence of how sound and frequencies affect the physical world. The shapes of the first two outfits in The Syma Line are visual adaptations of physicist Ernst Chladni’s sound figures... THE TECHNOLOGY The designer used laser-cut patterns as well as integrated electroluminescent wires…

DIMENSION ALLEY X MYPRODUCTLAB X THESTUDIO BY SOFÍE DI BARTOLOMEO | CITY OF SOUND BOLERO
DIMENSION ALLEY X MYPRODUCTLAB X THESTUDIO BY SOFÍE DI BARTOLOMEO | CITY OF SOUND BOLERO
THE DESIGNER The City of Sound bolero is a collective project of two designers and a creative technologist. ElektroCouture in-house designer Sofie Di Bartolomeo focuses on the connection between smart textiles and the body; for this piece she joined forces with Pelgrim Vanderkerkhove from myProductLab – Berlin-based specialist in concepting, product design and prototyping – and Norma Barr, co-founder of DimensionAlley, Berlin’s first 3D printing shop. THE CONCEPT For the City of Sound bolero the designers recorded actual traffic noises and converted them into a three-dimensional pattern, which reminds of a big city skyline. The improvisational traffic map of Germany embraces the contours on the wearer’s back and arms and symbolically points towards how movement influences our daily lives. The Technology The jacket is made from soft faux-leather and organza with the 3D design printed directly onto the material using flexible and stiff biodegradable plastics. For a clean finish, a laser-cut surface was added that fits precisely with the cityscape pattern.

THESTUDIO BY ELEKTROCOUTURE | THE BERLIN COAT
THE DESIGNER A space for creative freedom, TheStudio by ElektroCouture unites selected designers and technologists that work together in an environment where the traditional sowing machine meets the latest laser cutter and 3D printer. The members of the team challenge the intersection between fashion and technology and use the interdisciplinary playground to exchange skills and knowledge as well as to inspire each other on various designs that go from experimental to ready-to-wear. THE CONCEPT The Berlin Coat starts with the idea of the old industrial knitting machines and ends with modern technology that now allows the knitting of complicated patterns and precise photos. Used as a way of transferring memories into a physical item of clothing, the coat captures the image one sees when flying into Berlin at night. THE TECHNOLOGY The team at TheStudio used LED embroidery to emphasize the border between east and west Berlin that is still visible in the dark.

THELAB X THESTUDIO BY LUSÍ AJONJOL & SOFIE DI BARTOLOMEO | K-LAPSE
HELAB X THESTUDIO BY LUSÍ AJONJOL & SOFIE DI BARTOLOMEO | K-LAPSE
THE DESIGNER As a multimedia biotechnical designer and head of TheLab at ElektroCouture, Lusi Ajonjoli creates new materials from bio waste and other organic matter. Her projects evolve around the life cycles of sustainable materials and environmental remediation. Sofie Di Bartolomeo is a textile and clothing designer from TheStudio at ElektroCouture – her focal point is the interaction between textiles, materials and the body. For the creation of bespoke wearable pieces, di Bartolomeo uses laser cutting and 3D printing among other advanced production processes. THE CONCEPT As the inaugural project of TheLab at ElektroCouture, K-Lapse dress connects biotechnology with fashion by using “vegan leather“, a textile made with fermented black tea. For the production of the piece the designers used the SCOBY agent (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast) that is fed and raised with a sugary organic tea. THE TECHNOLOGY Through fermentation, the original biotechnological procedure, a thick layer of cellulose is formed, which is later harvested, dyed and tanned in a way that resembles real leather.

KANIKA GOYAL | THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
THE DESIGNER With its roots deep in quality craftsmanship and refined tailoring, Kanika Goyal’s label embodies the concept of provocative minimalism. Fascinated by the principle of paradox, the designer consistently transforms her contrasting ideals into garments that narrate eclectic yet powerful stories. THE CONCEPT Inspired by youth, their behavioral patterns, subcultures, gadgets and slang, the collection transforms the idea of the digital epiphany into delicate details. The symbolic contrast between reality and virtuality is portrayed through the use of crystal and metal embellishment that decorates the coat. THE TECHNOLOGY The brand’s signature asymmetry is combined with precise tailoring and innovative technology – LED lights are integrated into the metallic details on the coat.
