Book Buddy Project
The Once-ler’s Once Again Adventure By: _____________________ Class!
Dear Families,
I want to introduce The Lorax! He is the caretaker of the Truffula Tree Forest in Dr. Seuss’ classic story. This year, students will take this loveable character home for a weekend adventure. Along with journal pages, you will find the book The Lorax by Dr. Seuss and a stuffed Lorax all stored in a 100%recycled, reusable bag. During his scheduled visit, I am requesting that you and your child buddy read The Lorax, discuss how you impact Earth positively, and determine a project that you and your family can do together to help our environment: plant a tree, recycle papers to the retriever, eat dinner by candlelight, or any other BRIGHT idea you come up with! Don’t forget your camera! It is obvious that The Once-ler hasn’t thought about how he interrupts the ecosystem by cutting down all the Truffula Trees in The Lorax. What “New Adventure” has the Once-ler gotten himself into now? By choosing a project, this should inspire creative writing modeled from this adorable classic! We will combine our short stories to publish in the spring.
I have included a kid friendly writing checklist to help guide your short story.
My paper includes a Name and Date. _ _ / _ _ / _ _ I started each sentence with a capital letter. ABC abc I included a . ! ? at the end of my sentence. I read my paper to my parents and checked my spelling. I’ve included a beginning, middle, and end. My story makes sense and is ready to be published! Here are a few rules! Please keep The Lorax away from pets, smoke, or strong smells. If an accident happens, please do not worry. The Lorax will receive a weekly bath when he returns home! Remember to have fun! This should be a positive, learning experience for both the student and parent! Place the The Lorax (stuffed animal and book) to the recycled, reusable bag and return to school on Monday.
