STEP THREE: KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND (A) Finding the hotel Give the following hotel address to the taxi driver: Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar Hotel No.1, Jalan Pantai Jaya, Tower 3, 59200 Kuala Lumpur.

SURVIVAL GUIDE Should the taxi drivers ask for nearby landmarks, you can further clarify that it is next to the Telekom Tower (Menara Telekom) and near the Mid Valley Megamall. To get to the hotel using the train, you will have to use the Light Rail Transit (LRT) train service provider. Malaysia uses three different train systems which creates a complex and connected web of destinations. Before purchasing your train ticket, be sure that you are not on the Monorail train or KTM train instead. If ever you find yourself on a train line that is not LRT, head to the KL Sentral station as you will be able to interchange lines at that station. The nearest train station to the hotel is the Kerinchi station on the Kelana Jaya line using the LRT. The hotel is a five minute walk away from the Kerinchi station. Kindly take note that the train line ceases operation at 11.30pm and begins at 6.00am everyday. Take the LRT from the Kerinchi station heading to the KLCC station on the Kelana Jaya line. This is about 7 stops away. Take the LRT from the Kerinchi station heading to the KL Sentral Station. This is about 2 stops away. From KL Sentral take the KLIA Express train to KLIA. Take the LRT from the Kerinchi station heading to the Pasar Seni station on the Kelana Jaya line. This is about 5 stops away. The Arts Craft Market is directly underneath the station whilst China Town is a 5 minute walk from the station. Take the LRT from the Kerinchi station heading to the KL Sentral station. Switch your train provider from LRT to Monorail. Take the train heading to the Bukit Nanas station. The KL Tower is a 2 minute walk from the station.

The hotel also provides free shuttle services to the Mid Valley Mega Mall. the Bangsar Shopping Centre and the KL Sentral station at certain hours of the day. Compared to the public transportation system, taxis are a more expensive alternative and costs RM4 for the first 2 kilometres and RM0.20 for every subsequent 200 metres.

The temperature ranges from about 20°C - 32°C.

As Malaysia has a tropical climate and gets its fair share of rain and sunlight, light and airy clothing will be ideal to suit the Malaysian climate. However, the debating venues that we have provided may be cooler so you are also advised to bring a cardigan or jacket as well. As Malaysia is a tropical country that receives its fair share of sunlight, one would also be advised to be equipped with sun block. As Malaysia is sunny and rainy all year long, we recommend participants to be equipped with umbrellas as well. (C) Electrical Sockets Participants should bring an international adaptor in order to use the electrical sockets in Malaysia unless the one utilised in your country resembles the following:

We will be providing free wireless internet both at the hotel and at the debating venue. In general, businesses in Malaysia provide free wireless internet to its customers. So, if you urgently require internet access when you’re out, stop by a café and ask for the WiFi password! If you require reliable internet on your phone, participants should purchase a local SIM card. Monthly data plans are as cheap as MYR 20. (E) Purchasing Power

What is it? The Central Market Kuala Lumpur is arranged in a stall concept, representing the traditional market that has existed in Kuala Lumpur since the 1800s. Travelers can scroll through the many sections that exists within the Central Market, from the Lorong Melayu, Straits Chinese, and Lorong India which is located on the west wing. The second floor hosts a food court, offering an array of food. Notable are two-storey and single- storey buildings resembling the kampongstyle houses representing the many ethnic groups living harmoniously in Kuala Lumpur.

KL Bird Park is the home to more than 3,000 birds of approximately 200 species of local and foreign birds. Sprawling approximately 20.9 acres of verdant valley terrain, the park is divided into 4 zones; Zone 1 and 2 make up the free-flight zone; Zone 3 is the Hornbill Park and Zone 4 is where the birds are placed in separate cages and mini aviaries.

Museum Negara is the national museum of Malaysia. It is a repository for the country’s rich historical heritage. After its recent upgrade in 2008, the Museum has become a more interesting and interactive venue for visitors, taking them on an exploration of Malaysia’s history beginning from the prehistory period to Malaysia today. It was here the Union Flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight (time: 12:00 AM) on August 31, 1957. Since then, Merdeka Square has been the usual venue for the annual Merdeka Parade (National Day Parade). Surrounding the square are many buildings of historical interest.
