Weekly Update From the Middle Grades March 30, 2018 Northeast Academy for Aerospace and Advanced Technologies DRESS CODE POLICY LINK Food and Drink Policy According to NEAAAT’s Student Handbook, page 18: Food and Drink No meals from outside food establishments may be brought onto campus to students for breakfast or lunch during the school day unless a classroom event or celebration is planned (prior approval required). Students may bring breakfast or lunch that was packed at home. Food and drink are not allowed in the classroom unless students have received prior approval from the teacher. There is one exception to this policy: students may bring a re-sealable bottle of water for consumption in classes and/or a small snack for the end of the day.
8th Grade ELA/Social Studies 8th Grade Science This week we read articles, watched videos, and discussed primary documents, literature, and music created during the Roaring 20’s and Great Depression as part of our PBL--Resilience Through Time.
This week, we continued our unit about the Hydrosphere. We are studying Oceanography and the career of being an Oceanographer.
Students learned about important cultural shifts in America during the 1920’s and 1930’s including the impact of women in the workforce and politics after the passage of the 19th amendment, the issues related to social and economic equality brought to light during the Harlem Renaissance, and the crushing, disruptive poverty that affected all Americans during the Great Depression.
Ways to support your student: ● As we celebrate National Poetry Month in April, please connect with your students over American poets including Langston Hughes.

8th Grade Design Thinking
8th grade math is into Systems of Equations.
We are introducing...Welcome Coach Oneal Pullie to Design Thinking!!! Mr. Pullie has many years of experience teaching Art and Design at ECPPS and in the Pasquotank community.
Math 1 We have completed Systems of Equations and are on to Polynomials, factoring & Quadratic Equations! Study Island Homework, every week.(GROAN!) 2 topics to 70% Mastery. Students are being asked to STRETCH and do some self-directed learning. Encourage them to use their devices to go FIND solutions and understanding.

ALL missing assignments and grade fixers must be done by 12 midnight on this day!

ART SUPPLIES NEEDED!!!!! Black History Celebration Collage designs are on display in the ITC building for the month of March. Students also assembled Frames for his/her design. Design students will embark on a three week drawing course that will allow them to better understand the principles and elements of Art.
Drawings will be displayed in the ITC building. The design classes will then use the skills learned to build models of trucks, tennis shoes/other shoe styles and a storage box. DONATIONS NEEDED We are in need of Elmer’s glue, masking tape, scissors and rolls of aluminum foil.
English I/World History This week, students began their PBL Resilience Through Time World History project. Students explored significant events in world history and selected five events to research for both primary and secondary resources. Students then narrowed down to one topic to research both as a single significant event and the event’s impact through time. Earth and Environmental Science This week, we discussed interactions of biotic Factors (living things) and abiotic factors (non-living parts) of the ocean.

7th Grade ELA/Social Studies 7th Grade Science This week, 7th grade learned about Bethany Hamiliton!
This week our students took a practice test for their upcoming assessment for the weather section. The students also updated their study guides.
Continuing our theme of resiliency, students read the article ‘Shark Attack Survivor.’ Students practiced their annotation skills by highlighting key words and phrases and then put this into their own words.
Annotation makes the reader an active participant in the flow of the text After reading, student then participated in an activity called ‘Scrambled Eggs!’ Please ask your student about it.
REMINDER!! Students need to bring a refillable water bottle. There is a Culligan water dispenser available in the ITC.
