Dear Parents, Guardians, and Amherst-Pelham Community Members: As an update to our earlier messages, please be aware that while the investigation continues, our information at this point is that the individual student who posted the concerning comment has met with the Amherst Police Department along with the student's family. The home of the student has been searched. In addition, with the cooperation of Local and State Police and Federal Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms teams, a thorough search of the High School building was conducted today, and the building is clear for occupancy at this time. As per the previous message, Mark Jackson and I will be available to meet this evening in the Amherst Regional Middle School at 7 pm to discuss what occurred. School will be open as normal tomorrow. On Tuesday morning, Mr. Jackson will meet with the faculty before students arrive. All students will report to their A period classes. Over the PA system, Mr. Jackson will address the students. His main interests are: 1. To briefly review the chronology of events over the last two days. 2. To reassure everyone that safety is the first priority and to itemize the steps taken to secure the building. 3. To offer counseling support to those in need. 4. To reiterate the importance of our obligations, as members of the same community, to each other. This includes the importance of coming forward with information when members of our community are in distress.
