I am an experienced communicator, orally and in writing and have worked in many organisations worldwide and in many roles including extensive experience in administration with handling large scientific data sets, purchasing and maintaining equipment, budgeting and communication via email, phone and in person. I am IT literate including Microsoft Office. I am familiar with the basics of HTML and have assisted in creating and maintaining websites. I am capable of working both in a team (both as a leader and teacher and also under management) and individually and can run projects from inception to completion with minimal supervision, often in a fast-paced detail-oriented environment. I have worked as a receptionist, publishing assistant and biology lab manager and have previous experience in customer service and handling payments as a waitress and motel manager. I also have a wealth of experience in animal capture, handling and care. I have experience in creating and implementing scientific research projects investigating wildlife which has included detailed care and monitoring of a wide variety of species as well as the transportation of individuals. I have also worked in captive environments in both wildlife rehabilitation centres and wildlife parks. RELEVANT EXPERIENCE__________________________________________________________________ I have experience of administration, report writing and data handling through my various roles as a lab manager, PhD and MSc student, publishing assistant and as a motel manager. I have experience of customer service and communicating with the public, colleagues and other external companies/individuals via email, phone and in person. I also have experience of public outreach and education through various roles and have enjoyed these experiences immensely. I am quick and keen to learn new skills and to build upon my previous skills in animal handling and care as well as public outreach and education. I have experience marking animals, including banding, subcutaneous microchips and ear tags. I have also implemented and adhered to many strict protocols with regards to sterilising equipment, health and hygiene for animals and decontamination for disease control. EMPLOYMENT AND VOLUNTARY EXPERIENCE________________________________________________ Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels, Balloch, Scotland (SWT) Red Squirrel Conservation Officer Dec.16 – present Responsible for the project across Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and parts of Stirling and Argyll. Responsible for developing landowner and volunteer engagement to work to protect red squirrels in priority landscapes from replacement by grey squirrels and squirrelpox disease. Including grey squirrel control, squirrelpox surveillance, community engagement, organising, conducting, collating and reporting survey information. Training volunteers and landowners in humane trapping techniques and advising on current methods of red squirrel conservation. Aldi Store assistant with progression to Deputy Manager March.16 – March.17 Started as a Store assistant in the newly opened South Ruislip branch (London) progressing to Deputy Manager within 6 months. Subsequently transferred to the Renfrew store (Glasgow) in December 2016. Duties included shelf stacking, stock rotation, wastage control cashier duties and customer service. I managed and re-merchandised the chilled section of the store and assisted with the training of new staff. I dealt with the financial aspects and was responsible for book-keeping and safe maintenance.

2 Willis Bat Lab, University of Winnipeg, Canada Lab Manager Sept.14 – Apr. 15 Ordering and maintenance of equipment, assisted other students, including booking travel and accommodation. Point of contact for the lab with the University finance department and dealt with invoice payments, requisitions, reimbursements and cash advances; as well as external companies and government bodies. I maintained and organised the online data storage system and was responsible for organising and filing the lab paperwork. I organised and managed the database system and was responsible for data entry (including training others) and checking the data quality. The Westhaven Motel, Fox Glacier, New Zealand Motel Manager Nov. 11 – Aug. 12 Communication across language barriers, customer service, managing housekeepers, maintenance and repair within complex. I took part in the housekeeping and was responsible for the administration and reception duties, including communicating with guests and travel companies via email, phone and in person. I used the reservation system Callista to manage bookings and to invoice travel companies. I also handled all payments and monitored the stock and safe handling of cleaning supplies. During this role due to its location and importance within an environmental tourist attraction area I was also able to educate the public about the local wildlife. Matheson Café, Fox Glacier, New Zealand Waitress/Coffee Barista Nov. 11 – Aug. 12 Preparing drinks (including barista coffee service), handling payments, ensuring hygiene and health and safety practises were adhered to, helping to prepare food and delivering food to customers, meeting customers’ requests. Darwin/Wongalara AWC Wildlife Sanctuary, NT, Australia Project Manager Nov. 10 – Aug. 11 Management of a small mammal and reptile research project including logistics, volunteer recruitment, management and training, site set up and initial trapping arrays and surveys. I wrote grant applications and reports and purchased equipment to budget. Data entry and management and contributed to the write up of a published peer-reviewed paper. The project was a reintroduction experiment and I had the opportunity to organise and lead an expedition to transport native rats from an island to the main land via helicopter, plane and car. I worked closely with the Territory Wildlife Park to ensure health and safety of the animals, including designing a specialised holding facility. I also gained experience in injecting microchips into small mammals for future identification, and in caring for wild rats held in temporary captivity as part of a relocation procedure. R. B. Miller Station, Sheep River Provincial Park, Alberta, Canada Apr. 10 – Aug. 10 Field Research Coordinator Apr. 09 – Jul. 09 Field Assistant I led a volunteer team, taught them to live trap and handle Columbian ground squirrels. Managed expenses/budgets and the overall logistics. I monitored wild populations to determine reproductive status and to select suitably healthy individuals to move between sites. These were subsequently cared for as captive individuals (held temporarily as a transplant project) until release was appropriate, dependent on territorial behaviours exhibited by the resident population. As a field assistant I trapped, handled, marked and moved individuals.

European Conservation Action Network, La Brenne Reserve, France Volunteer Feb. 09 Practical conservation protecting butterfly habitat, training in use and maintenance of hand tools e.g. lopers and power tools e.g. brushcutters. Benfontein Game Reserve, Kimberley, South Africa Field Assistant Sept. 08 – Dec. 08 Individual daytime observations of birds, with 2-way radios. Night time capture and handling of birds and radio-tracking. Data entry and management. Trained new volunteers. I cared for two orphaned chicks for a week. For a short time I assisted the mammal team with the radio tracking, spotlighting and darting (sedation) of medium sized nocturnal mammals - aardwolves. Pemberley Books, UK Publishing Assistant Nov.06 – Sept.07 Managed subscriptions, including individual and company invoicing and management of payments; prepared articles for publication and communicated with printers, editors and authors via email and phone. Programs used included, Microsoft office, Quark express and outlook. Operation Wallacea, Cusuco National Park, Honduras Volunteer Aug.04 – Sept.04 Live animal trapping and handling: mist-nets, canopy traps, pit-fall traps; expeditions, and camp maintenance. The species handled included butterflies, birds, small mammals and reptiles. Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, South Africa Volunteer Sept.02 – Jan.03 Handling, care and rehabilitation of captive and wild animals, assistant at minor operations with animals under sedation, including large cats. I assisted with the radio-tracking of rehabilitated individuals which had been released into the wild. I hand raised orphans (often 24 hour care) including primates, small mammals, birds and reptiles. I assisted in providing tours of the centre and undergoing night spotlight drives to entertain and educate the guests. I also trained new volunteers in the appropriate care and handling of the different animal species, including birds of prey fed only from the glove. EDUCATION____________________________________________________________________________ Jan. 13 – Apr. 15 PhD Student - University of Winnipeg, Canada Incomplete - withdrew due to compassionate grounds. Thesis: Survival and Phenology of a temperate hibernator, the little brown bat. This included ethics and grant applications, report writing, recruiting, managing and training teams of volunteers (which included the injection of microchips and taking DNA samples). Managing the logistics of multiple field teams, including purchasing and maintaining equipment, booking travel and accommodation. Database construction and maintenance, data entry and analysis. Sept. 08 European Distributed Institute of Taxonomy Summer School, Italy and France No grade – but full certification for course achieved. New techniques in taxonomy within Europe in a multinational group.

4 Oct.07 – Sept. 08 MSc Conservation and Biodiversity - University of Exeter, Cornwall Campus, UK Grade: Distinction Thesis: European Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica) breeding success and chick size in relation to the surrounding habitats (agricultural). This included communication with the public in person and through the media (radio and newspaper). I created, managed and maintained a large database and conducted all data entry and analysis. I caught and handled chicks and adults, monitored the chicks growth and when appropriate banded them and took blood samples when. Oct.03 – Jul.06 BSc Biology and Psychology dual honours - Keele University, UK Grade: 2:i Biology thesis: The Interaction of hummingbirds and flora in Cusuco National Park, Honduras.
