PURPOSE To increase student achievement in mathematics and prepare students to be ready for Algebra as well as College and Careers, teachers will reflect and refine their teaching practice to increase student engagement focused on how students learn math.
GOALS Gain experience with an extensive set of tools, structures, strategies and teaching routines designed to: ★ Align with research on student motivation, engagement and how they learn mathematics. ★ Support every student in developing a growth mindset as a mathematician ★ Support you in recognizing and eliminating status issues known to inhibit mathematics learning. ★ Assure that every student engages in powerful mathematical habits of mind and habits of interaction with particular emphasis on conjecturing, justifying and generalizing. ★ Increase the mathematical quality and cognitive level of every student’s engagement ★ Use seminar activities and materials to design an Action Plan that focuses on creating a classroom culture in which all students engage continuously and productively in mathematical reasoning and sense making.
COMMITMENTS ❏ Participate in 3day seminar (June 2729) ❏ Develop, implement, reflect on, and revise your action plan with a focus on how students learn mathematics.
COMPENSATION ❖ 21 hours of curriculum pay or 2 NCU credits or University Credit There are only 30 seats available**.
