Most Reverend Mark O’Connell, Regional Bishop for the North Region of the Archdiocese of Boston will be conducting a specially designed meeting at St. Agnes’ Parish Center
FAMILY MASS (Please Note Mass time change for May) Our next Family Mass is May 20th at 11:00am For our Family Masses we seek teens and youth to help by serving as lectors for the readings, bringing up the gifts, and assisting with the offering collection.
Please note that the St. Agnes/St. Athanasius Collaborative is not the purpose of the Bishop’s meeting. Rather, Bishop Mark would like to get a feel for the “heartbeat” of today’s Catholics by offering the opportunity for a dialog with fallen away Catholics, confused Catholics, and other Catholics who would like to be a part of this conversation. It will be a simple question and answer format, allowing for the Bishop to hear and respond to questions on the minds of those at Church in an open, accepting atmosphere.
CONGRATULATIONS CONFIRMANDI ! Our students received the Sacrament at St. Athanasius this past Saturday! A Big Thank You to all our Faith Formation leaders, teachers and aides for all the hours you have dedicated to prepare these young people to devoutly reach these important milestones in their lives of faith. We welcome you fully into the Church ! We invite all teens in Reading receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this year to celebrate your full initiation into the Catholic Church at St. Athanasius on Sunday, 5/20! The celebration includes the Family Mass at 11am and a lunch after Mass in the St. Athanasius Parish Center at 12pm. We are looking for teens who will have been recently confirmed to serve at this Mass as lectors, altar servers, gift bearers, and offering collectors.
Contact St Agnes Parish for questions: 781-944-0490
This day will simply be a chance for teens to worship, pray, spend time, and have food and drinks with friends and family to celebrate and kickoff the rest of their lives following Jesus! We ask that families bring drinks and desserts, and we’ll supply lunch.
LADIES SODALITY The Ladies Sodality seeks to bring women together under the banner of our Blessed Mother and through dedication to her ideals enhance both the spiritual and social life of its members and St. Athanasius. Ladies Sodality will be meeting SATURDAY, MAY 19th @ 8:00am IN THE PARISH CENTER. PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING US FOR AN HOUR OF SERVICE AND PRAYER.

7th Sunday of Easter Ascension of the Lord The end of the school year is in sight. Another year is almost complete and plans for the summer are being made. Playgrounds and pools, baseball fields and parks will soon be filled with the sounds of children and families having fun and enjoying the outdoors. One part of the year concludes and something new begins. If the Gospel were a good novel, the Ascension of Jesus would be the concluding chapter, ending the story of His life and leaving it up to us to determine if the Apostles followed through and if they made it to Heaven with Jesus. But the Ascension is the close of one chapter and the beginning of another. The Ascension and Pentecost signal something new: the birth of the Church, the preaching of the Gospel and the work to convert the world. All of us who are baptized become part of this work. There is no final chapter or conclusion, but rather the ongoing renewal of the mission Jesus entrusts to us. It takes many different shapes and forms, but in the end, we all do the same thing: teach His Word and live His Gospel in the hope of life eternal. As each chapter of our life concludes, another one opens with the promise that through it all, the Lord will be with us. Just like the summers of our youth, it will be the adventure of a lifetime. ~James Gaffney, St. George Publishing

May 20 ~ Pentecost “Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.” The disciples caught that fire and went forth speaking about the wonderous things God had done. What are some of the wonderful things God has done for you? Pray that the Holy Spirit will kindle the fire of his love in your heart. Then, like the disciples go forth and share God’s gifts with others.
