May 2017

Dear Betty Adams Community, It is hard to believe that it has been nearly nine months since we started the year. We all have worked hard this year, and there are still many exciting things left to do in the next three weeks. Your children have wrapped up their PARCC testing. We hope that all of their hard work throughout the year will be reflected in their performance.

We are in the midst of a bittersweet moment here at Betty Adams. Turnover in staff is not something that we usually experience. We are losing some fabulous educators to retirement and job changes and they will be missed. As the end of the year approaches there are a few things to keep in mind. As we hold our end of the year events the Westminster Fire Department has asked that we be aware of our school’s fire lanes as we drop off and pick up our students. Parking is always an issue, but the safety of our students’ needs to come first. Finally, please remind your child of the ever changing weather this time of year. It may be sunny and bright when we leave for school, and cold and windy by lunch. A jacket is always a good idea. It has been another exciting school year! I hope you have enjoyed the experience, it seems like the days flew past. Our students are second to none. I am proud of each and every one of them. I have met with all of them and enjoyed our time together. Please be safe in your summer adventures! We will see you for registration in August! Sincerely, Brendan Feely

Returning Students/Clinic’s Corner:

Will your child be returning to Betty Adams Next Year? As we plan for the next school year, we appreciate knowing which students will not be returning to Betty Adams Elementary for the 2017-2018 school year. If you have not notified the office, please do so as soon as possible at 303.982.9790. Thank you for your help!

CLINIC’S CORNER STUDENTS WITH MEDICATION IN THE SCHOOL CLINIC: District policy requires a parent/guardian to pick up unused or discontinued medication at the end of the school year from the school clinic. The Parent/Guardian must collect their student’s unused medication on or before the last day of school. This includes all prescription and over-the counter medications including cough drops, cough syrup, Tylenol, EpiPen, inhaler, and any injectable medications. All medication that is left in the school clinic will need to be disposed of after the last day of school. This in an additional expense for a specialized disposal process that meets EPA requirements. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SCHOOL CLINIC TO ARRANGE FOR COLLECTION OF YOUR STUDENT’S MEDICATIONS! Thank you!

We've made it to the final part of the year! Thank you so much to all the staff, parents and students for their hard work and help with programs and concerts. I am on maternity leave this month, and I am also taking time off from August through December. I have a maternity leave sub, Ms. Neal, who will be teaching during May and next fall. I plan to return in January, 2018. Please welcome our music sub, Ms. Neal! Greetings Betty Adams Community, Thank you for giving me a moment to introduce myself. My name is Bambi Neal... dramatic pause. Yes that is my real name. I am very excited to join Betty Adams while Nicolette Reynolds is on maternity leave. My background is in Music Education K-12 with an emphasis in voice. I have recently returned to teaching after staying home with my 3 daughters, Laurel, Lindsey and Ashlyn. I am also working towards my Masters for SPED. I feel incredibly honored to have this opportunity to work with your children. Looking forward to meeting all of you. I will be the one wearing orange during hunting season. Bambi Neal Thank you all again for a great school year! I am looking forward to spending time with my growing family, but I'll miss the Betty Adams family while I'm gone. Have a safe and fun summer! Mrs. Reynolds

Art Show Display Currently on display in the large display case are all of the artworks which were selected for art shows through out the year. If you missed seeing them on display at the Butterfly Pavilion, Red Rocks Community College, or the Jeffco Ed Center, they are now on display in our school. Portfolios! It's the time of year where students in 1st through 6th grade will soon be assembling their portfolios to bring home. We've been saving all of their 2D artwork to come home all together. This gives the students a chance to reflect on their work over the entire year. It's so fun to hear them say, "Oh yeah, I remember doing this!" Teaching for Artistic Behavior, TAB Next year I have decided to move my art teaching approach to a "TAB" classroom. This entails giving the students more choice and focus on student-directed learning. I'm really excited, I think the students are going to LOVE it! More info will come at the beginning of the 2017-18 school year. Summer Art Opportunities If you have a kid who would love to have art experiences over the summer, here's a list of places that offer kids classes/workshops: -Arvada Center: https://arvadacenter.org/education/summer-camps-2017 -Foothills Art Center: http://www.foothillsartcenter.org/summer-camps/ -Denver Art Museum: http://denverartmuseum.org/calendar/2017-kids-summer-camps-and-classes -Denver Students League: http://asld.org/youth-programs/summer-camps-teen-studios/
