For the first time in the history of MDI, Imperium - the cultural fest and Akshayam the sports fest were held together from 15th to 17th November. It saw the combination of sports, cultural and management events into one big 72 hours extravaganza. Students from more than 19 colleges poured into the campus and MDI, brightly lit, was ready to welcome them with open arms. Click to add a photo or drag your photo here.

Imperium saw all the academic clubs coming out with domain specific management events like Eleusis by HR Direction and Brand Charades by Marquity. Other events ranged from Nautica—the business simulation game - to quizzes to IPL style cricket bidding events. Students could be seen running around from one venue to the other either managing events or participating in them.

Alongside, the sports events were also going on. With the past reputation at stake, MDI launched its conquest in a total of 18 sports. The events carried on for 3 whole days with matches scheduled choc-a-bloc and players battling it out on the courts till wee hours of the night for a taste of victory. At the end of the fest, MDI emerged winners in Carrom, Chess, Football, Badminton and Tennis, thereby becoming the overall winners for Akshayam 2013. Yet another aspect of the fest were the cultural events which drew people from all over NCR. A huge stage was set up in the Nalanda greens where all the action was centred. Dance competitions, mimes and music competitions were all held here. The highlight of the cultural fest was Panache – The Fashion Show which was a highly anticipated event and all the participating colleges put up a great show.

The evenings for those who were free were a time to unwind. Soul Kitchen was organised where people came together around a bonfire and sang their hearts out on the Gurukul steps under a starry November sky.

People looking for a little more excitement flocked to the Gurukul foyer where the War of Bands competition had been organised. The bands amped up on energy, managed to get the crowds singing along in no time. On the last day of the festival, the campus was abuzz with speculations as to who would be performing on the star night. The students were treated to a happy surprise when they finally got to know it was none other than the singerShibani Kashyap. With her mesmerising performance the fests came to a close and marked an end to the 3rd year of the students hosting successful fests.

The entire MDI campus was decorated and lit up on the day of the meet. The evening started around 6 pm as alums started to pour in one after another with their family and friends. The Library ground became abuzz with voices, laughter and emotional hugs as old friends and compatriots recounted and shared their experiences. They were also joined by the esteemed faculty members and a bevy of excited student volunteers. alumni posed in front of the camera as they looked forward to take a piece of the memory with them. Many were seen exchanging contacts with each other and grabbing a piece of memorabilia in the form of MDI sweatshirts and T shirts. The National Alumni Meet is one event that has been eagerly anticipated by the entire alumni base throughout the year as it is held within the Institute’s boundaries itself. The very essence of the meet is to facilitate establishing an everlasting bond with our alumni and to serve as a platform for developing a strong network and help MDI grow in the long run. With everyone going home with smiles on their faces and fond memories in their hearts, it is time to look forward to another year full of events and to continue forging the bond stronger with our alumni with each passing year.

Delphique 2014

Click to add a photo or drag your photo here.

Delphique is MDI’s red carpet event, its National Management Convention, now in its 17th year. It is a confluence of three events– the Research Panel Discussion, Vincenza –an International Business plan competition cum coaching program and Cerebro –a National case study competition. It provides the perfect platform for practitioners and thought leaders from the industry, academia and the student populace to come together to share, exchange and contemplate ideas under various management domains. Delphique is India’s only B school event which focuses on strong research in various domains of management. The quality of research is ensured by students backed by faculty guidance. And to increase the value of research, there is a high profile panel discussion on the research by the who’s who of the corporate world.

Delphique’s success is corroborated each year by the presence of industry leaders as knowledge partners. The event’s uniqueness lies in its strong research focus spanning a period of almost 8 weeks. The theme for Delphique this year was “Humanitatis Obsequim” meaning “Service to Humanity”. It is relevant in today’s corporate world not just because the Company’s law in India mandates 2% of revenue to CSR but because there is a dire need for the organizations to think beyond profits for their long term sustainability by focusing on people. In addition to our esteemed professors, the event was graced by a number of industry stalwarts. The event was inaugurated by Mrs Renana Jhabwala, President SEWA, a Padma Shree recipient in the year 1990. She joined SEWA in 1978 and after working as it’s secretary in Gujarat, she initiated it across the country. She presides over SEWA Bharat, which is a merger of SEWAs in nine states. Apart from that she is one of the founders and present Chair of WIEGO (Women in Informal Employment and Organising) based at Harvard University, USA.

The Research Panel Discussion consisted of eight knowledge partners: Deloitte (Strategy), IBM (HR Analytics), Western Union (Finance & Operations), Encyclopaedia Britannica (Marketing), Fortis (HR Healthcare), Exchange4Media (Communications), PWC (Analytics) and Evalueserve (Analytics). Some of the eminent panellists were: Manoj Verghese (Director, Facebook), Sushant Upadhyay (Partner, Aon Hewitt), Ravishankar Pooli (Country Director, Western Union), Aditya Vikram Jain (Asia Pacific Research Services & KPO Manager, BCG), Suhail Daljit Singh (Fortis) and Sunil Kumar (President, Exchange4Media Group). Our very own alumnus, Mr. Anurag Batra, also graced the occasion.

Cerebro and Vincenza are two events that take place simultaneously and involve country-wide participation from top BSchools. Cerebro is a National Case Study Competition and this year, the case floated was on ‘Wealth Management in India’. Close to 250 teams participated in the rigorous event. The finale took place at MDI itself and was graced by Mr Rahul Handa, Director of Congnizant Business Solutions. IMT Ghaziabad were declared winners of Cerebro. Vincenza is Delphique’s B-Plan Competition and serves as a platform for budding entrepreneurs while providing them coaching at various levels. Unlike other B-Plan contests, Vincenza does not limit itself only to management colleges and this year there was enthusiastic participation from engineering colleges and existing start-ups as well. The final presentation was made to a panel comprising of people notable because of their commitment to supporting the entrepreneurial culture in India. In the end, team Rob a Shop from ISB, Hyderabad won the event with team ShanSa from VPCOE, Pune being the runners up. The jury consisted of Mr Sanjay Verma (Head, IAN Incubator), Apurv Agarwal (91Springboard), and Matteo Chiampo (Entrepreneur, CEO of Axind Software Pvt. Ltd.). On the final day, Mr RS Sharma, MD & CEO of Jindal Power (the title sponsor of Delphique this year), shared his word of wisdom and brought the event to a close. Delphique this year was a huge success and every industry mentor involved with the event had only applause and appreciation for the convention. The MDI Alumni Committee comprising of representatives of batches of the PGPM, NMP, Part-time PGPM, EMP, PPM and the FPM Courses, undertakes the responsibility of initiating, maintaining and renewing communication with the MDI alumnus. One of the critical elements of business relations is networking. As MDI charts its upward climb rapidly, a strong and healthy relationship with the alumni and the industry helps in providing newer avenues for growth across various sectors for the students To get in touch with the Alumni Committee, kindly contact: Ankit Gupta Secretary +9188000231979 MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE Alumni Relations Office First Floor Gurukul MDI Mehrauli Road Sukhrali, Gurgaon Phone: +911244560283 Fax: 94-124-4560007
