MECHANISMS AND ROBOTICS COMMITTEE BEST PAPER AWARD The Honors and Awards Subcommittee shall be responsible for selecting, if appropriate, a manuscript to receive recognition as the Best Paper presented at the Mechanisms and Robotics Conference. The Award shall consist of a suitably embossed ASME Certificate and a cash prize of $1,000 which will be presented at the Conference Luncheon. The selection of a manuscript to receive this award will be made on the following basis: This award shall be given for significant original contribution to the field of mechanism design or theory as represented by a paper presented at the Mechanisms and Robotics Conference. The manuscript designated to receive this award shall be selected prior to the conference. It may have multiple authors but at least one of the authors must be a corporate member of ASME. If there are multiple authors each will receive a certificate and the cash price will be shared equally among the authors. Although various procedures may be used to select the manuscript designated to receive this award the method used should be free from bias. A possible selection process is as follows: 1.

Compile a listing of those manuscripts submitted for the Mechanisms and Robotics Conference which have been designated as Honors quality by the papers review process. This step may be carried out in cooperation with the domestic and foreign Papers Review Chairmen.

2.

Establish an ad hoc committee whose task will be to evaluate the candidate manuscripts and select one to receive the award if warranted. It is suggested that this ad hoc committee consists of at least three members, one of whom may be the Chairman of this Sub-Committee. It is further suggested that the individuals serving on this ad hoc committee be recognized as leaders in the field who are qualified to judge the originality and significance of the work being evaluated.

3.

Upon selection of the manuscript to receive this award, notify the ASME Design Engineering Division representative at ASME headquarters in New York City in order to have the certificate prepared. ASME usually needs three months to prepare the certificate. Advise the ASME that the recipient of the award should be identified in the Conference Program and that the award conferral will be part of the Conference Luncheon proceedings.

4.

Notify the recipient of the award to be bestowed and arrange for his presence at the Mechanisms Conference Luncheon.
