• The  Mexican  Revolution  is  one  of  the  most  important  events  of  the  20th  Century  as  it  was  the  first  revolution  of  the  century.       • Art  is  an  extremely  useful  tool  in  reflecting  a  culture’s  values  and  history   • Murals,  in  particular,  are  paramount  in  telling  one’s  history  as  they  are  in  public  spaces  and  have  a  general  theme  or  message  that                                              can  be  understood  by  everyone,  whether  one  is  literate  or  not     ESSENTIAL  QUESTION(S)

What  are  the  key  tenets/Who  are  the  key  players  of  the  Mexican  Revolution?   How  can  a  mural  be  successful  in  teaching  people  about  culture  and  history?   What  role  do  the  famous  Mexican  muralists  play  in  the  telling  of  the  Mexican  Revolution?     CONTENT  and  SKILLS  

Students  will:   • demonstrate  understanding  of  the  Mexican  Revolution  and  its  key  players  and  tenets   • recognize  and  understand  vocabulary  associated  w/the  art  and  show  comprehension  by  answering  yes/no  questions  and/or  giving   single  word  answers   • recognize  cognates  in  Spanish  and  English   • ask  questions  about  a  piece  of  art  and  an  artist   • answer  questions  about  a  piece  of  art  and  an  artist   • talk  about  an  artist’s  life  and  their  accomplishments   • talk  about  a  piece  of  artwork-­‐describe  it,  who  painted  it,  etc.   • role  play  a  visit  to  a  art  gallery  and  discuss  what  they  see,  the  artists  shown,  and  describe  the  art     • read  excerpts  from  Hasta  que  verte  Jesus  mío  and  answer  questions     • read  a  classmate’s  written  work  about  artist/  artwork  and  comment  on  it.   • read  an  adapted  text  article  about  two  Mexican  muralists  and  answer  comprehension  questions   • watch  the  documentary  The  Storm  That  Swept  Mexico  and  answer  questions   • write  a  critique  about  another  student’s  mural  and  its  effectiveness  in  telling  an  aspect  of  the  Mexican  Revolution   • watch  the  movie  Frida  and  dialog/journal  about  what  they  learned
