Why are report cards changing? Boise School District has updated the K-6 report card over the past year to more closely align to our Idaho Core Standards in English Language Arts (ELA), Math, Social Studies, Science, Health P.E., and Music. The area referred to in the past as Work Habits and Conduct has been changed to Traits of a Successful Learner. The Standards on the report card reflect the instructional alignment. In order to prepare students to be college and career ready, it is important to provide feedback based on their performance on the Standards. Evidence of student learning will be gathered through various activities that align to the Standards. Through the collection of evidence teachers will be able to report back information to students and parents based on how they performed on the Standards.
Traits of a Successful Learner ~formerly called Work Habits and Conduct These skills are important personal habits necessary for students to demonstrate as they are working and learning in the classroom and school community. They include the following characteristics: follows directions, listens attentively, completes work in a timely manner, perseveres and puts forth best effort, participate in and contributes to group activities, accepts responsibility for own actions and respects school rules and participates positively in the school community. These skills also carry over into college and careers. We strive to build these personal work habits in students throughout their educational experience.
The purpose of the report card is to communicate the student’s progression towards learning goals, highlight strengths, and guide improvement. Grades 3rd-9th Core Content Areas (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Health) *Overall content grade A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 U 50- 59 Why no E (exceeds)? The purpose of the report card is to assess a student’s ability to understand and apply grade level standards. Using E (exceed) would assume to reach the highest level, students would need to meet standards at the next grade level, which is both inaccurate and unfair. Students that do exceed standards can be noted in the COMMENT section.

P: Partially meets standard: I have some understanding of the target, can work independently some of the time. I just need more practice. S: Support Needed: I am not yet able to work independently, but I can work with support or intervention. X: Not Evaluated
