What is the difference between distributed and lumped networks ? 3. What is difference between TE and TM modes ? 4. What are the major differences between TWT and Klystron ? 5. Write down the important characteristics of Transferred Electron devices. (2×5=10) SECTION – B 6. a) State and explain the Poynting’s energy theorem.

b) A certain transmission line has a characteristic impedance of 75 + j 0.01 Ω and is terminated in a load impedance of 70 + j 50 Ω . Calculate the reflection coefficient and transmission coefficient.

c) Write down four basic rules for boundary conditions at the surface between two different materials.

7. a) What is Smith Chart ? Explain. b) Describe the characteristic features of single stub and double stub impedance matching techniques in a given transmission line. c) An identical two-cavity Klystron amplifier operates at 4 GHz with V0 = 1KV, I0 = 22mA, cavity gap of 1 mm, drift space 3 cm. If dc beam conductance and catcher cavity total equivalent conductance are 0.25 × 10 – 4 mhos and 0.3 × 10 – 4 mhos respectively, calculate beam coupling coefficient. (5+5+5=15) P.T.O.
