Mike Smith Visit December 13th, 2017 Mike Smith is coming to Woodbridge! Mike Smith is a motivational speaker, author, philanthropist, and “professional teenager”. Mike is often used as an example of true leadership in our SALC classes. Mike is also the founder of both THE BAY, a non-profit skatepark and youth outreach center in Lincoln, NE that focuses on skate, art, music, coffee, and community, and Skate For Change, a youth movement that empowers skateboarders to give back to the homeless in their communities. His YouTube series, The Harbor, which focuses on character development in schools, is viewed by over 10 million students and educators worldwide. Mike’s book, “Legacy vs. Likes,” promotes leadership and passion while encouraging readers to stop talking and to start doing. Currently, Mike’s the principles in his book serve as the inspiration for Future Focus, the SALC mentorship program that takes place during FLEX periods in English 9 classes. Mike Smith will be coming to Woodbridge on December 13th. He will be at the school the whole day, speaking at two assemblies and holding a student leader workshop. He will be visiting classrooms during the lunch block. SALC students will be capturing footage of Mike’s experience at WSHS for the whole day. We ask that teachers talk with their classes about his visit and encourage students to actively participate and actively listen to Mike’s positive words of encouragement.
