BOARD OF SCHOOL DIRECTORS STOWE, VT February 2, 2015

Cam Page called the meeting to order at 6:00pm with Richard Bland, Emily Bradbury, Jim Brochhausen, and Susan Segal present. Tracy Wrend, Superintendent, Richard Smiles, SES Principal, Dan Morrison, SMS Principal and Jeff Maher, SHS Principal represented the administration. There were no amendments to the agenda. The minutes from the meeting of January 19, 2015, were approved based on a motion by Jim Brochhausen and seconded by Susan Segal. Motion was carried Principal Reports Stowe Elementary School, Richard Smiles  NAEP  Bridge Math & Science  Ice Sculpture  VT Author  Early Dismissal Feb. 5/In-Service Feb.6---for all schools Stowe Middle School, Dan Morrison  VAMLE Beyond Bullying Conference  Composting  Annie MS Play Auditions  Leadership Speaking Series: Ray Dube, Sustainability  Legislative Breakfast Stowe High School, Jeff Maher  Jan. 28 Drug & Alcohol Forum---P.S.S.T.  Jan. 29 Winter Concert  GMTCC/ Course Scheduling/Graduation & Scholarship  Feb. 9 College Planning Night for Juniors/Parents (6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.) Tracy noted that Jim and Richard submitted an op-ed article to the Stowe Reporter, the budget books will be distributed at the February 16 Board Meeting, and the next edition of It’s About Learning is in process. Tracy reminded the Board of the tool she had walked the Board through at a prior meeting. Tracy asked the Board to engage in a two-part exercise: 1) try to notice factual information related to trends (e.g. enrollments) 2) pose questions (e.g. “I wonder why that trend exists”), all to generate discussion at the board meeting on February16. Tracy facilitated a discussion of the Board’s observations on the District Data Tool data.

The board went into executive session to discuss a personnel issue, because doing so in open session would place the district at a substantial disadvantage, based on a motion by Susan Segal and seconded by Jim Brochhausen. Motion was carried The board came out of executive session. The board accepted Helen Bennett’s retirement with gratitude for her many years of service based on a motion by Susan Segal and seconded by Richard Bland. Motion was carried With no further action to come before the board, it was agreed to adjourn at 7:30pm based on a motion by Susan Segal and seconded by Jim Brochhausen.
