'\tVith Victory In Europe, Americans may be proud of their ability to work together for the good of all.

RIGHT IS MIGHT. \Ve justly feel our cause has been right ..• A cause based upon the principle that all men are free .•• We

PEACE reigns over Europe tonight. How much that

have fought a good fig'ht so that lnay stand forever.

implies ... to some it means home and family . . . . reunion with their loved ones ... food and warmth ... the deadening of pain ... freedom from fear and hatred and want. Yes, there is peace in EUl'ope tonight, but the battle is still raging on the Pacific . . . lives are being lost ... boys are being maimed and ruthlessly shot down. Peace has come to Europe ... but not to our boys in the Pacific. It is up to us to bring them home soon ... to let them feel the happiness that peace brings. Let us continue to buy bonds until total victory IS ours.

A final extending peace is in sight ... Let us continue I

our righteous efforts to achieve that noble objective.

It thought to plunge the democracies in a blackout of fear: but instead its chalJ.e nge only brought everyone of us rallying around our own Stars and Stripes-fighting Tojc-Hirohito militarism blow for hlow. The final test is soon to follow. Then Japan will follow Mussolini aud Hitler to ig-nominious defeat - paying" dearly for its horrendous crimes.

We have now completed one phase of OUr war task. We are on the road to a victorious conclusion of a g'lobal war. Your sChool here in Monett is in this war effort. We hav~ bou~ht bO!ld~ and stamp~ l'egl!larIy; we have trained for war jobs; we have assIsted In ratIonIng and registration; we have conducted scrap and paper drives; and we have kept up our regular school work. The schools are extrenlely glad that one phase of this war is over. \Ve feel that we should celebrate this, but at the same time we plan to direct our energy to finishing the-task. We are also tempering our celebration with the grim reminder that many . of our sons are continuing t'O fight and die in the Pacific area. We realize that many new tasks confront us now and these win be multiplied in the future. We have long recognized that EDUCATION is essential for a free people. The establishment of free schools was one of the first concerns of the early leaders of our country. Our ideal is educational opportunity for all. We, the' schools of Monett are dedicated to helping win this war and to building citizens for the IJeace. We ask th,e COOIJeratio n of cur- patrons in helping us: l.Provid'e traini~g for returning service men and WOlnen~ 2. Get all students ~f school age in school. Over 2,000,000 have dropped out of high school in the past three -years: Over 13112 percent of our adult populutio n in 1940 had a 4th grade education or less. We believe it is time for America to educate aU the children of all the people. \Ve believe the better life our boys and girls have fought and died for depends to a large extent on a well-trained citizenry. In this hour of celebration, the Monett schools dedicates itself to furnishing desirable educational leadership and training to the youth.AND the adults in Monett and the surrounding trade territory. Weare especially anxious to furnish the returning service men and women additional training. In cases where the school cannot furnish the training, it can in many cases advise the returning veterans where and how the training can he obtained.

"Let , us impart all the blessing wle possess, or ask for ourselves., to the 'whole family. of mankind."-\VashillgMany people are rejoicing over our victories . .. many of these same people think the worst is over. The Victory which now is ours after years of struggle to preserve our liberties and the right to live our lives as we see it, brings a strong sense of our reSl1onsibilities~ not only to ourselves, but to those peoples we have helped to once again enjoy the rights of freedom of thought and action.
