Standard marching and concert band, A Cappella Choir, concert choir, string ensemble, and/or wind ensemble literature will be studied. These ensembles will give public performances which may include but is not limited to: Winter and Spring Concerts, community Parades, dedications and other celebrations, and many school activities such a home football games, rallies, etc. Participation in these performances is a requirement of the course. Membership in this ensemble is a requirement for participation in select ensembles such as Jazz Band, Symphonic Orchestra, Central District and All-State music Festivals. Junior and Senior members of this ensemble may elect to participate in Marching Band.
This course is designed for students who want to gain a greater appreciation of music through hand drumming. The class will focus on African and Latin-American music and culture. Students will learn basic rhythms, demonstrate techniques for playing various types of drums, improvise rhythms, and create ensembles. Students will apply communication and teamwork skills, gain a greater respect for other cultures, and understand basic musical concepts. This class will include demonstrations, hand-on activities, student projects, and group participation.
This course is for students who wish to learn how to play piano and learn basic musical concepts. In this class, students will learn basic musical terms, how to read musical notation, and how to apply that knowledge to play the piano. This class is limited to fifteen (15) students as each student practices on a keyboard. This course will include performances, written work, student projects, and hands-on activities.
This course is for students who wish to continue learning to play the piano. We will continue to study musical concepts more in-depth as they relate to the keyboard. Candidates for this class will have completed and passed Piano Keyboarding I, or have demonstrated prior piano playing experience via a playing test which can be scheduled through Ms. Boday. This class is limited to fifteen (15) students as each student practices on a keyboard. This course will include performances, written work, student projects, and hands-on activities.
871 CP MUSIC THEORY I
This course explores the basics of how music is constructed and written. It will cover foundational concepts in music such as ; clefs, key signatures, rhythms, notation, scales, etc. The course will include written work, student projects, and hands-on activities.

This course is for students who have successfully passed Music Theory I and would like to continue learning about the construction of music. This course will include more advanced musical concepts such as chord types, progressions, altered scales, part writing, and music composition. This course will include written work, student projects, and hands-on activities. PREREQUISITE: Students must have successfully passed Music Theory I.
875 H MUSIC THEORY III 3 CREDITS
This course is for students who have successfully passed Music Theory 1 and 2 and would like to continue learning about the construction of music at an advanced level. This course will include very advanced musical concepts such as voice leading, chord progressions, altered chords, arranging, and music composition. This course will include written work, student projects, and hands-on activities. PREREQUISITE: Students must have successfully passed Music Theory I and 2.
876 AP AP MUSIC THEORY 6 CREDITS
This is a music theory course designed for students who have successfully completed Music Theory 1 and 2 and plan on studying music as a career or who desire a more in-depth analysis of music theory. The course includes the study of music theory from the Baroque period through the 20th Century. It concentrates on vocal and instrumental music of the Western tonal repertoire. A piano lab and computer lab are available for musical analysis, composition, sight-singing, basic piano skills, and computer applications. PREREQUISITE: Students must have successfully passed Music Theory I and 2.
This course will feature lessons focused on the history of Rock and Roll in the USA., starting with 1950’s R&R, moving through the British Invasion, Soul Music, Surf Music, HISTORY OF ROCK AND Woodstock, Punk Music, Disco, etc. leading to the modern Pop and Rock music of today. The class will attempt to cover the breadth and depth of our musical culture. We will ROLL examine the different milestones and musical styles that have contributed to the current Rock and Pop music. The course will include several assessments including discussion, debate, 3 CREDITS readings, and projects. 877CP
878CP COOPERATIVE MUSIC 3 CREDITS
This course is offered to a selected group of pre-vocational students. The arts-based curriculum is focused on enhancing the physical, developmental, and emotional needs of special education students at the high school level. This class will encompass hands-on musical activities such as hand drumming, singing, movement, and active listening.
