2016 U-46 Summer Reading Challenge Winners Recognized

Illinois State Board of Education Feedback Needed on the Every Student Succeeds Act The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), with assistance from the Regional Office of Education, is hosting a second round of listening tours to collect feedback on Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). A series of meetings will be held across the state to provide overview information on ESSA and allow participants to share their ideas on how this important law should be implemented. This law, the majority of which goes into effect in 2017-18, will impact how the federal government tracks District, school and student performance. It replaces the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002. Please consider attending the ISBE ESSA Listening Tour from 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 28 in the auditorium at Streamwood High School, 701 West Schaumburg Road, Streamwood. Standards-Based Learning and Assessment Expands

U-46 will continue to expand Standards-Based Learning and Assessment (SBLA) in its middle and high schools in 2016-17. SBLA is an approach that provides clear and specific learning standards that are shared with students, parents, teachers and administrators. These standards establish what a student must know and be able to demonstrate in order to show proficiency in a course’s content. SBLA requires teachers to assess students’ progress on a scale from 0 to 4, with 4 indicating “mastery” of the subject matter – meaning students have learned the required key concepts and skills in that particular course. One of the District’s primary teaching and learning priorities in 2016-17 is to implement a rigorous math curriculum. As part of this focus, U-46 will implement SBLA in seven math courses in the 2016-17 school year. The courses are: Seventh Grade Math, Seventh Grade Accelerated Math, Eighth Grade Math, Algebra 1-2, Geometry, Algebra 3-4 and Pre-Calculus. For more information, click here or go to www.u-46.org and click on Standards-Based Learning and Assessment under the Hot Topics section.
