The National Media Museum in Bradford, England, is part of a group of museums which belongs to the National Museum of Science and Industry. It is situated in Bradford city centre in a seven-storey building. Some of its attractions include interactive galleries on the topics of photography, television, and animation, as well as three cinemas. One of these is an IMAX screen showing the latest 3D movies, two special exhibition galleries and BBC Bradford’s radio, TV, and online studio. The latter is a complete working exhibit within a museum. The collections are varied and there are plenty of opportunities for special tours and learning programmes, as well as facilities for research and investigation. The photography collection has the world’s first ever negative from a film and photographs by many influential photographers, such as Julia Margaret Cameron, Martin Parr, and Eve Arnold. In 2003, the world-famous Royal Photographic Society collection was added. You can also find the Kodak Museum Collection, which contains significant exhibits of photographic equipment from over the years. The Cinematography Collection has equipment used by the important Lumière brothers as well as unusual examples of objects like the kinetoscope and kinetophone, invented by Edison. The history and development of the world of television is also well represented at the museum which includes TV system inventor John Logie Baird’s experimental objects from 1923, and a large camera collection from British TV. Admission is free of charge to the public, except for tickets to the cinemas and IMAX centre. There are also parking facilities for visitors, a café with drinks and snacks, a bar, and a museum shop.
