Prakash Belawadi Mr. Prakash Belawadi is renowned not only as the founder of the Suchitra Center for Film and Drama but also as a film director, television personality and actor. He wrote and directed STUMBLE, a motion picture in English which won the National Award for Best Feature Film in English in 2003 (Available for reference IMDB, to buy at Amazon) He acted in Girish Karnad directed ‘KANOORU HEGGADITI’ and ‘CHIDAMBARA RAHASYA’, TN Seetharam’s ‘MATADAANA’; and Shoojit Sircar’s ‘MADRAS CAFE’ (nominated Best Actor in a Negative Role, 2014 SCREEN Awards): to be released in 2014- AGASI SALOON (Kannada), YOUNGISTAN (Hindi) He has received numerous awards including National Award for ‘STUMBLE’ (Best Feature in English, 2003); Karnataka Nataka Academy Award (2012); Pratibha Bhushan, Karnataka (2004); Rotary Centennial Excellence Award in Filmmaking (2005); Aryabhata Award for Best Direction (2002); Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Award for Best Actor in Supporting Role (2005). Contributed to DECCAN HERALD, INDIA TODAY, THE ILLUSTRATED WEEKLY OF INDIA, FINANCIAL EXPRESS, KANNADA PRABHA and several other publications Recent works include design and direction - Sam Peter Jackson's PUBLIC PROPERTY (Feb.2, 2014, Deccan Herald Theatre Festival); Badal Sircar's THE OTHER SIDE OF HISTORY (Sept 2011), GORA (adaptation from Tagore's novel for RANGAYANA, Mysore), Eve Ensler's NECESSARY TARGETS, Michael Frayn’s COPENHAGEN, 2008-9 (Bangalore, Pune), Richard Shannon’s THE LADY OF BURMA, 2009, Dario Fo’s THE ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST 2009 (in Kannada adaptation), world premiere of Alan Brody’s SMALL INFINITIES, 2009, 4 CHAPTERS, 2010 (A stage adaptation in English of Rabindranath Tagore’s Bengali novel). All the above are productions by Centre for Film and Drama. Prakash Belawadi and Suchitra Center for Film and Drama have also had a long exchange with the School of Film now part of Valand Academy, University of Göteborg Sweden.
