NBMS ACTIVITY BUS
We are excited to announce that there are a few clubs taking place at NBMS!
Mid-Columbia Bus Company has arranged an after-school activity bus for those students living north of the bridge. This bus will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, leaving NBMS at 4:30. Drop off times are as follows:
FIDDLE & FOLK MUSIC CLUB
WANTED! Fiddlers ~ Mandolins ~ Guitars ~ Bass Players
All musicians are welcome and we have room for a few beginners too! There are a few instruments available also. This club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30—4:30 PM in Mrs. Hood’s classroom.
JOIN SCIENCE CLUB!
Mr. Sinko and Mr. Johnson are sponsoring a Science Club. If you are interested, the meetings will take place during lunch time on Thursdays in Mr. Sinko’s classroom. (Room 71). Some of the proposed activities include: Science Bowl, Seaperch Robotics Competition, Science Olympiad Competition and Field Trips! Mr. Sinko has a unique way of getting the student’s attention while making his announcements with his signature “sign-off”…...

8TH GRADE CELEBRATION We are getting started early on planning for the 8th Grade Celebration! We are excited to have so many interested parents this year! Our first meeting will be on: Wednesday—October 11th at 7 PM in the MPR

LEADERSHIP TEAM You may have heard that NBMS has started a Leadership Team this year! This team is made up of 6th, 7th & 8th grade students. It required them to fill out an application along with an essay as to why they felt they would be a good member. We had a great response and comprised a terrific team for NBMS! The Leadership Team will have a new focus each month. For the month of October it is Kindness! The team will make posters to line the hallways and present the focus for each month in a quick assembly for all students. NBMS staff will hand out tickets each month to those students exhibiting these qualities. They will be put into a drawing and each Friday someone will win a prize! At the end of the trimester, teachers will nominate students to receive a certificate who have demonstrated these qualities. We are excited about this new program and the awareness it will bring to our students! Our Leadership Team is made up of the following students: Lizzy Bonner, Kaley Chapanar, Amy Greig, Olivia Knutson, Kylee Lambert, Haley Reeves, Katie Tellei, Emily West, Alex Garcia-Silver, Avery Pex, Promise Reid, Alexi Wagoner, Payden Johnston, Chloe Moore, Madison West & Lindsey Wright. Mrs. Michelle Lucero and Mrs. Kara Moore were instrumental in getting this program started by applying for and receiving a grant from the NBSD Foundation.
NBMS ATTENDANCE ADVOCATE We would like to announce that the NBSD has hired Mr. Boe Pickett as the Attendance Advocate for NBHS and NBMS. Mr. Pickett will be working with students and their families to help improve the attendance of our students. Studies show that if a student misses 20 days of school per year, there is an 80% chance they will not graduate! Surprisingly, this includes excused absences as well. It is our goal to work together for the betterment of our students.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS The Knights of Columbus will be collecting cake mixes and cans of frosting again this year for their holiday baskets. NBMS will be participating this year by having a classroom competition based on your student’s advisory teacher. Totals will be calculated per student capita as some classes have fewer students than others. The winning classroom will be rewarded with a party and the bragging rights of hosting the “pink unicorn” in their classroom.
UP-COMING PTA MEETING The next PTA meeting will be held on Thursday, October 12th @ 6:30 PM in the NBMS Library! Please join us to see what new and exciting events are happening at NBMS!
