CHINMAYA VISHWAVIDYAPEETH UNIVERSITY FOR SANSKRIT & INDIC TRADITIONS

Introduction Sanskrit, as a language, is often referred to as one of the most ancient and the mother of several languages in the Indo-European group of Languages. Sanskrit holds the key to the treasure house of Ancient Indian knowledge. Ancestral Indian Wisdom has been captured and preserved through Sanskrit in several works ranging from Vedas, Vedāṅgas and Upavedas to Smṛtis, Dharma-śāstras, Purā as and Kāvyas. Established Sanskrit Institutions have been imparting these knowledge in a systematic manner. However, as society progresses, new challenges and issues emerge. Modern social and business systems face problems of sustainability. At the individual level, we have problems of dealing with oneself. People face enormous stress in their working life as well as personal lives. Furthermore, public systems and institutions often face leadership challenges for want of people with moral strength, values and courage. Emergence of new technologies including the Internet have also opened up new avenues for teaching and research. These turn of events seem to point to a renewed role the Ancient Knowledge Systems can play by addressing some of the contemporary issues that the society is facing. Educational and Research Institutions in the domain of Sanskrit have a huge opportunity to respond to these emerging issues. The transformation required will demand newer approaches to teaching and research. Furthermore, it may open new avenues for gainful application of the Ancient Knowledge Systems for solving today's problems. The most important fall out of these is that the higher institutions in the domain of Sanskrit & Indic Knowledge need to transform themselves to stay relevant. This conference is designed to address these issues and create a new agenda for the professionals and researchers in the field of Sanskrit and Ancient Indian Wisdom. The conference will provide a platform for thought leaders, academic community and researchers to share new knowledge, best practices and gain from mutual interactions during the conference. The conference will also provide networking opportunities for those engaged in teaching and research in Sanskrit, Indic Knowledge & Applications.
