Google Slides Proof Practice

by Stephenie Jordan, CTD KISD

Google Slides is a perfect tool to use when students need practice writing formal, two-column geometric proofs or solving algebraic equations. In my example today, I will use a geometric proof to create an interactive puzzle. First, open the proof document. It can be word, pdf, or online.

Next, go to your Google Drive and open a new Google Slide.

Delete the “Click to add title” and “Click to add subtitle” boxes, so you have a clean slate.

Next, find your Snipping Tool and then go back to your proof document. Snip the problem and then paste it on your Google Slide.

Continue to snip each piece of the proof resizing as needed so all pieces fit.

Now, share the URL with students so they can move and slide the puzzle pieces in place. The catch is we don’t want them to change your original document, so what you will do is go to the URL and find the word “edit.” https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/174RuS9dXFKSu5G0NheeYeuYFCWGdD4jSJL_epTViKI Y/edit#slide=id.p Change that to “copy”. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/174RuS9dXFKSu5G0NheeYeuYFCWGdD4jSJL_epTViKI Y/copy#slide=id.p

This will force the students to make a copy of the slide in their Google Drive. They may have to sign in to their Google Drive first.

Students have several options to get it back to you. They can share it with you. By clicking on Share… a dialogue box will open asking for an email address. They can just type in your email address and it will be in your Shared With Me folder. They can click Download as and another menu appears. They can choose PDF and upload it to Canvas in an assignment.
