What Is It?
How will the children learn?
The PYP provides an opportunity for learners to construct meaning around a range of concepts/big ideas
Traditional academic subjects are part of the programme, skills in all areas are taught but mainly in the context of a unit of inquiry.
Skills are valued, where learning does not fit within a unit of inquiry it is taught through stand alone units of inquiry. E.g. number in mathematics
Children learn through curiosity – encourage them to ask questions and to explore ways of finding the answers to their questions.
This is called inquiry based learning

SEN model
Promote inclusive education where students access the maximum degree of integration as possible Students are provided academic and social / emotional support through adjustment of the curriculum, specialist intervention and modification to the learning environment.
Special needs at BHS Levels of Adjustment
LEVEL 1 – Additional booster programs for all students in need . E.g. fine motor skills, writing, number, social skills LEVEL 2 – Student’s identified with Learning or Attention difficulties, mild Speech & Language or social communication challenges or High Functioning Autism that are supported by class teacher with additional support from the SEN department LEVEL 3/4 – 21 students identified as having more moderate needs. Learning Support Class (LSC) Three or Four students in each year level supported in the regular classroom by an SEN teacher or SEN educational assistant all of the time Level 5/6 Supporting Integration of students from Jockey Club Sarah Roe for nominated sessions

How can I help prepare my child? • Talk positively about school Help them to visualise themselves at school Help them to feel positive and self confident Remind them how exciting school will be • Label clearly all articles which they will bring to school. First and surnames, with spaces for class to be added With 540 children in our school it is extremely difficult to trace the owners of unlabelled articles.
How can I help prepare my child? • Develop routines at home Regular, early bed times Read together regularly Play family games to develop turn-taking and sharing Regular play dates
How can I help prepare my child? Teach your child to: Put on and take off jumpers, shoes and socks. Tie shoelaces and do up buttons. Recognise and care for their own belongings. Open and close their school bag. Differentiate between break food and lunch. Unpack and eat their break and lunch. Put their rubbish in the bin.
How can I help prepare my child? Communicate their needs and self care Make their needs known by raising their hand. Use and flush the toilet without assistance. Cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze. Notice when their face and hands are dirty and wash them. Use a handkerchief / tissue and put it away when not in use.
