February 1/2, 2014 Jesus is better! Hebrews 2:1-4

FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE Jesus is better because of the worship He receives. Jesus is better because of His eternal sovereignty. Jesus is better because of the work He accomplished at creation. Jesus is better because of the victory He achieved.
1) Note: The admonitions in the book of Hebrews become stronger through the book, from “drifting” from (2:1) to “defying” God’s Word (12:25). 2) 2:1 On the basis of who Jesus is, we must give careful attention to what we have heard about Him.

the character of Christ the certainty of judgment the confirmation of God
GREEK WORDS Perissōs (per-is-soce')—superabundantly :- exceedingly, out of measure Pararheō—to drift away from; used of something slipping past Parabasis—(transgression) to step across a line as a willful act; overt sin of commission; intentionally doing something known to be wrong Parakoē—(disobedience) the idea of imperfect hearing [not like deaf]; rather, deliberately closing the ear to the warnings and invitations of God; sin of neglect or omission Ameleō (am-el-eh'-o)—to be careless of :- make light of, be negligent, not regard
3) 2:1 Inaction in spiritual things is fatal. One need not be violently opposed to Jesus to suffer loss; he need only to drift away from Him. 4) 2:2 In Greek, the word “since” assumes a fulfilled condition…not a possibility, but a reality. 5) 2:2 The Law punished every sin fairly, because there had been a clear set of rules and a clear set of consequences. 6) 2:2 The more you know, the greater the punishment for ignoring what you know. 7) 2:3a The warning is directed to those who are intellectually convinced of the truth of who Christ is, but fail to act. 8) 2:3a Disaster is brought on by nothing more than neglect. 9) 2:3b God spoke through the apostles, the first to hear the gospel from Jesus Himself. 10) 2:4 When Jesus claimed to be God and then did things that only God could do, He confirmed His divinity and, consequently, the truth of His message. 11) 2:4 The gifts of the Holy Spirit are additional confirmation by God of the message. 12) Three great reasons not to neglect the gospel of salvation:
