ADDING A GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN NONPROFIT ADMINISTRATION TO A CURRENT MPA: Students who are currently admitted to the Master of Public Administration program at Boise State University will have a ‘streamlined’ admission option during the first (2/1/15) admission cycle of the Nonprofit Certificate. Current MPA students are required ONLY to: • •

apply through the graduate college’s online admission system, AND provide the 300 word statement explaining his/her educational and career objectives with regard to adding the graduate certificate in nonprofit administration.

Thus, the additional reference letters and resume are waived for current MPA students who wish to add the nonprofit graduate certificate per the FEBRUARY 1, 2015 deadline. In addition, for this February 1, 2015 admission cycle only, the Graduate College will grant us flexibility in applying coursework taken pre-admission to the nonprofit certificate. Normally, 2/3 of a student’s certificate coursework must be taken after formal admission to the program. We have a limited window in the policy established by the Graduate College to allow students to apply certain courses already taken to the nonprofit certificate. After this admission cycle passes, the Graduate College policies will apply in full. If you are interested in adding the nonprofit certificate, please contact Dr. Fredericksen as soon as possible to begin that process.

ADVISING FOR GRADUATION IN 2015 OR 2016 If you plan to graduate in August 2015, December 2015 or May 2016, be certain that you have:  Filed a complete program development form with the department. NOTE: This should be done WHEN you are first admitted to the program. This is a department document and is available on the MPA program website: http://sspa.boisestate.edu/publicpolicy/forms/. In particular, the Department expects that you complete PubAdm 692 during the last semester of your MPA program and that you have taken all other core classes in the program before the final semester.  Received formal approval for any course work outside the Department of Public Policy and Administration that you plan to use in completing your MPA. If you do not petition BEFORE you take the class, then you risk having the outside course disallowed for the MPA degree. The petition to use individual courses from outside the Department of Public Policy and Administration is available within the ‘forms’ tab of the MPA program website: http://sspa.boisestate.edu/publicpolicy/forms/.  Petitioned successfully for a waiver of the required program internship well in advance of your candidacy application OR you must include six credits of PubAdm 590 on your list of required classes for graduation. The internship waiver policy (and guidelines for requesting such a waiver) are located within the ‘forms’ tab of the MPA program website: http://sspa.boisestate.edu/publicpolicy/internships-jobs/

 Completed the Application for Candidacy form (available on the graduate college website: http://graduatecollege.boisestate.edu/forms/ ) AND applied for graduation with the Registrar’s Office. For the candidacy application, you should list your classes on the candidacy form in chronological order (e.g., transcript order). The candidacy form must have the signatures of your advisor and Dr. Fredericksen. The candidacy application must be completed, signed, and filed with the graduate college BEFORE you can actually apply for graduation. Applying for graduation entails logging onto your Bronco account through the Registrar’s Office after all paperwork has been filed and approved through the Graduate College. Thus, you should allow sufficient time so that you can meet the deadlines for graduation filing. The Department of Public Policy and Administration recommends: For August 2015 graduation, first submit your Application for Candidacy form to your advisor and to Dr. Fredericksen by or before February 6, 2015. After department review and approval, the Application for Candidacy form is due at the Graduate College by Friday, 2/20/15. After the Graduate College approves this candidacy application, then you must log onto your BroncoWeb account and complete the online Application for Graduation. For August, 2015 graduation, you must do this by June 4, 2015. For December 2015 graduation, first submit your Application for Candidacy form to your advisor and to Dr. Fredericksen by or before May 1, 2015. As these forms require advisor signatures as well as the program director’s approval, the candidacy application should be submitted well before the end of the spring 2015 term. Faculty may not be available for review and signature during the summer 2015 term. After department review and approval, the Application for Candidacy form is due at the Graduate College by Friday, 6/26/15. After the Graduate College approves this candidacy application, then you must log onto your BroncoWeb account and complete the online Application for Graduation. For December, 2015 graduation, you must do this by August 28, 2015. For May 2016 graduation, first submit your Application for Candidacy form to your advisor and to Dr. Fredericksen by or before September 25, 2015. Dr. Fredericksen anticipates being on sabbatical during the Fall 2015 term, but will still monitor and review graduation processes. After department review and approval, the Application for Candidacy form is due at the Graduate College by Friday, 10/9/15. After the Graduate College approves this candidacy application, then you must log onto your BroncoWeb account and complete the online Application for Graduation. For May 2016 graduation, you must do this by January 15, 2016. If you have questions, please contact your MPA advisor or Dr. Fredericksen.
