LOCAL CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WIN THREE OUT OF TEN NATIONAL AWARDS The Learning Partnership and BMO Financial Group hosted the Entrepreneurial Adventure showcase June 2. Ten awards were given nationwide and the Ottawa Catholic School Board schools received three. Kudos to award winners: Assumption Catholic School Winning projects: Won the Impact award, Teacher Renata Cordani - “I-AM-SAFE”- students sold bracelets promoting their community as a safe place to live and to promote anti-bullying initiatives and raised $4,000 for the Wabano Centre, Catholic Family Services and the School Breakfast Program. Also, students held a “Building Community” breakfast to connect community members and highlight their community (Vanier, Ottawa) Contact person: Luce Paradis 613 746 4822 Pope John XXIII School Winning project: Judges Choice, Teacher Lori Arno, “Living Healthy, Living Smart “– a dance promoting fitness and healthy snacks, the fundraiser raised $2,000 for Rogers House Contact person: Principal Brenda Richard 613 226 6223 Mother Teresa High School Winning project: Won Originality award, Teacher Len Baldin, “Text 4 Charity” – students participated in a speed texting competitions and raised money for the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund. The Entrepreneurial Adventure Showcase, hosted by The Learning Partnership and BMO Financial Group, featured innovative business ventures created by local students between Grade 2 and Grade 12. A total of 170 young social entrepreneurs were on hand at the Entrepreneurial Adventure Showcase June 2 to unveil business ventures that have raised funds to support charitable initiatives such as Rogers House, the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada and the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre. What is the Learning Partnership? Established in 1993, The Learning Partnership is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to championing a strong public education system in Canada through innovative programs, credible research, policy initiatives and public engagement. Since its inception, more than three million students and teachers have participated in one or more of TLP's programs, including Take Our Kids to Work(TM) and Welcome to Kindergarten(TM).
