All Saints High School St. Peter High School

Overview

Our Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) offers students the opportunity to explore a specific career interest in the Arts and acquire the skills and experience that will assist them in determining their postsecondary pathway. All post-secondary pathways are available with this program: Apprenticeship Training, College, University and the Workplace. Our SHSM in Arts and Culture enables students to build a foundation of sectorfocused knowledge and skills before graduating and entering apprenticeship training, college, university, or an entry-level position in the workplace. This makes the learning environment more engaging for students, focuses them on graduation and prepares them to pursue their career goals. “The three levels of government in Canada clearly recognize the value of supporting arts and cultural activities. Arts and cultural issues are often included in Throne Speeches, and departments, agencies and councils have been created across the country to foster and promote the arts. Governments also know that their

$7.7 billion investment in culture helps generate $40 billion in economic activity and creates 600,000 jobs.” (http://www. statcan.ca/english/IPS/Data/87C0033.htm)
