About Oliver’s Fund Grants from Oliver’s Fund will be awarded by MAEF each year to projects which increase awareness of the critical issue of youth depression and suicide, reduce the stigma of seeking help for mental health concerns, and help create an environment where young people in Mahtomedi feel able to connect and contribute to the community.
Help-Seeking Activities
Examples of projects that the fund would like to support include, but are not limited to:
Awareness
n Fund ongoing depression screening at the high school, to the extent permitted under state and federal laws.
n Distribute up-to-date printed educational materials on suicide awareness and prevention on an ongoing basis to students, families and teachers.
n Provide resources to families about how to access mental health services in our community.
n Train staff on how to recognize and respond to the symptoms and warning signs.
n Make available mentoring and support groups for students. n Help students learn effective strategies to encourage their peers to seek help
Kids Connect & Contribute n Involve students in the design and execution of mental health/prevention programs in the schools. n Support students who start clubs or interest groups at school.
