4:30pm The meeting was called to order by Lynn Thomas. M/S: That the agenda be adopted as circulated to members. Carried. M/S: That the minutes of the 2011 AGM be approved. Carried. President’s Report: Lynn prepared a written report for the members which will be posted on the website. She highlighted several items including: a. Preconference b. CSSE CATE conference, including the CATE Keynote, Clare Kosnick, the CATE panel, and the Spotlight session at AERA. c. Lynn highlighted a number of new publications written by CATE members and noted these will be the awards given to the graduate student award winners. Vice President’s report: This written report will also be provided on the website. He highlighted several things including: a. Mark Hirschkorn reported on the CATE conference program, and included statistics on the past five years in terms of membership. He noted that while the numbers for 2012 seem to be lower, this is because the numbers are collected by Tim Howard of CSSE several months ago. Numbers should be close to those in 2011. b. Acceptance rate for CATE this year has been lower than the past, was only 77%. This is because we had the same number of conference spaces and a larger number of proposals submitted. c. Mark highlighted the success of the CATE Spotlight sessions offered this year and noted they will continue next year. d. Mark also spoke about the concerns being raised with members submitting multiple proposals, given the competitive nature of the submission process. He also spoke about members submitting the same proposal to multiple associations, which was a problem this year. This will be flagged again in next year’s call to avoid this problem, reminding members they can only submit one proposal as first author, a second only if they are second author. Treasurer’s Report: Catherine McGregor’s written report will be posted on the website. She offered a short summary of the current CATE budget, highlighting revenues for each of the SIGS as well as CATE overall. Expenses are in line with previous years, although she highlighted the increasing catering costs to the organization. However, CATE remains in a healthy financial state. Graduate student representative. Lee Airton reported on the work she had done over the past year, highlighting the panel organized for this year’s CATE graduate session on connecting graduate student research with the field of teacher education scholarship. Nina Webster, as co-chair, thanked Lee for their continued contributions to creating a collaborative space in which to support graduate student members. SIG Reports.

Julie Mulluer’s work in organizing on the ground here in Waterloo, particularly the work in organizing a cross sector pre conference that involved TATE members, schools and districts, as well as industry representatives was much appreciated. Lynn also discussed a motion passed at the CSSE AGM about investigating the possibility of hosting a stand alone CSSE (apart from Congress). She went over details about the year long process that CSSE will begin in the fall about whether or not we should do a stand-alone conference or some different model than currently exists. But members will have an opportunity to review the report and recommendations at next year’s CSSE AGM. 12. Lynn also reported that the CATE website will be updated over the coming year; Jodi Nickel our communications director will be working on this initiative. 13. Members were reminded about the CATE Polygraph series: it is open to members for presenting a topic/theme within teacher education. Individuals can put forward proposals if you or a group of members have ideas you would like to do. Contact Lynn or Thomas Falkenberg if you are interested in doing a proposal. 14. Working conference: Lynn reviewed the history of this annual event, first organized by Thomas and Hans Smit, but now a CATE imitative. The details of the fall 2012 working conference at McGill will be sent out shortly. “Becoming teachers: sites for teacher development” is the broad theme. The
information about how to submit a proposal for the working conference. Kathy Sanford’s suggestion that we should have a conversation about whether or not there should be a closer tie between the pre conference and the working conference. The pre conference participants this year expressed interest in having social justice in teacher education.
