OneFS 7.0 Upgrade Readiness Checklist This checklist is designed to help you ensure that your Isilon cluster is ready to be upgraded to OneFS 7.0. If you would like additional guidance in preparing for the upgrade, contact Isilon Technical Support. For additional details about upgrading to OneFS 7.0, see the OneFS 7.0 Release Notes. For complete details about Isilon hardware and software compatibility, see the Isilon Supportability and
Compatibility Guide.
System requirements ☐ My cluster meets all system requirements below, and as specified in the OneFS 7.0 Release Notes.
Hardware ☐ My cluster contains only supported node types. OneFS 7.0 is currently not compatible with IQ 32000X-SSD nodes. For information about when IQ 32000X-SSD nodes will be supported, contact your Isilon sales representative. OneFS 7.0 is not compatible with I-Series nodes. If your cluster includes I-Series nodes, consider removing those nodes from your cluster or replacing them with newer node platforms. For guidance, contact your Isilon sales representative.
Software ☐ My cluster is currently running OneFS 6.0 or OneFS 6.5. Upgrades to OneFS 7.0 are supported only from OneFS 6.0 and OneFS 6.5. For additional details about OneFS upgrade paths, see the Isilon Supportability and Compatibility Guide.
Pre-upgrade tasks Complete the following tasks before upgrading to OneFS 7.0. ☐ For clusters using InsightIQ: Upgrade to InsightIQ 2.1. OneFS 7.0 is not compatible with versions of InsightIQ earlier than 2.1. Note that InsightIQ 2.1 is also compatible with earlier versions of OneFS. ☐ For clusters using the Isilon for vCenter plug-in: Upgrade to Isilon for vCenter 1.3. OneFS 7.0 is not compatible with versions of the Isilon for vCenter plug-in earlier than 1.3. For information about when Isilon for vCenter 1.3 will be available, contact your Isilon sales representative. ☐ For clusters using Aspera Enterprise Server: Upgrade to Aspera Enterprise Server 3.0 and upgrade to a later version of OneFS 7.0. OneFS 7.0 is not currently compatible with Aspera Enterprise Server, but development is underway to bring compatibility with Aspera Enterprise Server 3.0. For information about when OneFS will be compatible with Aspera Enterprise Server, contact your Isilon sales representative.
☐ For clusters using the legacy LDAP provider: Reconfigure the cluster to use the standard LDAP implementation. OneFS 7.0 is not compatible with the legacy LDAP provider. Clusters using the legacy LDAP provider must be migrated to the new LDAP provider before upgrading to OneFS 7.0. For assistance, contact Isilon Technical Support. ☐ For clusters using SMB: Reconfigure unsupported SMB settings. OneFS 7.0 is not compatible with legacy SMB settings that were supported in OneFS 6.0 and earlier. Clusters using older SMB settings must be reconfigured before upgrading to OneFS 7.0. For details, see the Isilon Knowledge Base. For assistance, contact Isilon Technical Support. ☐ Ensure that your cluster’s disk pools conform to OneFS 7.0 node provisioning requirements. OneFS 7.0 introduces enhancements to disk pool management. As a result, OneFS 7.0 does not support certain configurations of disk pools that were allowed, but not recommended, in prior versions of OneFS. Before upgrading to OneFS 7.0, disk pools must consist of only nodes of the same type, according to their node equivalence class. Disk pools that contain a mixture of node types must be reconfigured. For additional details about node pools, node equivalence classes, and autoprovisioning, see the
Isilon Supportability and Compatibility Guide. For assistance reconfiguring disk pools, contact Isilon Technical Support.
☐ Reconfigure numerous, small disk pools of the same node type (pools of two or less nodes) to a single disk pool of the same node type. OneFS 7.0 introduces enhancements to disk pool management. As a result, OneFS 7.0 does not support certain types of disk pools that were allowed, but not recommended, in prior versions of OneFS. Small disk pools (pools of two or less nodes) of the same node type must be merged into a single, larger disk pool consisting of nodes of the same type. Pools of two or less nodes remain unprovisioned and cannot participate in cluster activities. Note, however, that you do not need to run a SmartPools job after merging pools. For additional details about node pools, node equivalence classes, and autoprovisioning, see the
Isilon Supportability and Compatibility Guide. For assistance in merging disk pools, contact Isilon Technical Support. ☐ Run the OneFS Pre-Upgrade Check utility to perform additional upgrade configuration checks.
The OneFS Pre-Upgrade Check utility performs a series of checks to ensure that your cluster is compatible with OneFS 7.0. The utility is available from either the OneFS 7.0 installation image or a patch as directed from the Isilon Knowledge Base. For details, see the OneFS 7.0 Release Notes.
SmartLock Compliance Mode OneFS can operate in either SmartLock enterprise or SmartLock compliance mode. SmartLock compliance mode enables you to protect your data in compliance with the regulations defined by U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission rule 17a-4.

•
Upgrading to OneFS 7.0 in enterprise mode is fully supported from OneFS 6.0 and 6.5.
•
Clusters running OneFS 6.0 or 6.5 cannot currently be upgraded to compliance mode and, once upgraded to enterprise mode, cannot be converted to compliance mode. A service is being developed to assist you to upgrade your OneFS 6.0 or 6.5 cluster to OneFS 7.0 in compliance mode, however, it is not yet available. If you are upgrading to OneFS 7.0 in order to take advantage of SmartLock compliance mode, it is recommended that you postpone the upgrade until a certified EMC Isilon
