Sustainability Standards

OUR PLEDGE We have the vision of a life in unison. Unison with nature and fellow human beings. We want to see our planet as a place of balanced, harmonious and joyful co-creation. We are dedicated to a constant process of learning, improving and sharing in order to find new ways to do business in the most sustainable and cooperative way. We only use renewable and sustainable materials, produced in a human-friendly atmosphere. The results are aesthetic and unique products of highest quality inspired by the playfulness and beauty of nature. To achieve this, we make it our goal to ensure appropriate standards for our input materials, as well as the way in which our products are made. This concept sets out a clear code for our organisation and hopefully inspires others to do the same.

Raw materials For our raw materials, which we use to produce our ono creations, we source only sustainable and natural materials which are produced in an environmentally friendly way. We ensure that our fabrics are organic from the thread to the dye. Where possible we source and use oeko-tex® or GOTS certified materials and dying methods or materials with similar sustainable certifications. Our cork material consists of cork with tencel® backing. Both materials are renewable and non-harmful for the environment. We further use organic bamboo, organic cotton, reclaimed teak and metal as natural materials to achieve the high quality and practicality of our products. Through working with suppliers that have official certifications, we can be sure that the materials we use are of good quality and not harmful in any way. We have close personal relations with our suppliers, which allow us to confirm whether their certification is earned and their materials live up to our standards.

Production The production of our products is of course a big part of our quality assurance as well. We make sure that all our products are produced in an ethical way, that is not harmful to those involved, which incudes not using harmful substances in the production process, as well as working conditions amongst others. As we believe in human empowerment and cooperation it is of utmost importance to us that the workers producing our creations are treated fairly. 3

Sustainability Standards

OUR METHOD This section shows you, how we ensure the standards that we strive for.

Trusted suppliers Wherever possible we use suppliers that have had their materials and production processes officially certified according to international standards, such as Oeko Tex® or GOTS. If this is not the case, we take it upon ourselves to ensure that their production methods are environmentally friendly and their materials comply with our requirements. We do this either through close contact to gain trust and encourage transparency (if a personal visit is not immediately possible) or directly through personal visits to their outlets. We only work with those suppliers for materials, dying or printing methods where we know that what we get lives up to our standards.

Regular quality checks in production workshops Before we enter in any relationship with a production facility we make sure that we inform them of our standards for production in their local language. Transparency and trust is crucial for us, and we therefore require their full cooperation. We are aware that not all facilities might initially be able to fulfil all points of our standards. Depending on which points are insufficient we decide whether the facility can be worked with or not. We have zero tolerance for child labour as well as forced labour. Any production facilities violating these two aspects will not be used by ono creations and any existing work relations terminated immediately. We make sure that members of the ono creations team visit the production facilities regularly. This means in-depth checks of all facilities at least once to twice per year. We visit the facilities with our checklist, talk to the head of the production facility, but also have informal chats with employees regarding the working conditions and benefits they receive. During our routine checks in the production facilities we check their compliance on all aspects of our standard. Should one facility fail to comply with some of the standards, we will discuss with the head of the facility and give suggestions and encouragement to improve the conditions. If he/she is not willing to adjust the standards we will evaluate the severity of the breach and if it is decided that the breach cannot be tolerated, we will terminate the working relations. Members of our team are further trained to do routine observations whenever they come into direct contact with production facilities (such as when picking up samples or finished goods). We believe that through this method we can ensure that when our products are made, no humans come to harm.

OUR STANDARDS We have a list of standards, aligned with the FairWear Foundation and the International Labour Organization (ILO), which we consider important for our production facilities. Through applying these standards we can ensure that we follow our vision, to produce our products in an ethical manner. For each aspect we have a checklist, used to check the production facilities, which is shown in italics directly below each segment of the standard. 1. No exploitation of children There shall be no use of child labour. The age for admission to employment shall not be less than the age of completion of compulsory schooling and, in any case, not less than 15 years." (ILO Convention 138) "There shall be no forms of slavery or practices similar to slavery, such as the sale and trafficking of children, debt bondage and serfdom and forced or compulsory labour. [...] Children [in the age of 15-18] shall not perform work which, by its nature or the circumstances in which it is carried out, is likely to harm their health, safety or morals." (ILO Convention 182). 2. No forced labour There shall be no use of forced, including bonded or prison, labour. (ILO Conventions 29 and 105) 3. No discrimination in employment Recruitment, wage policy, admittance to training programmes, employee promotion policy, policies of employment termination, retirement, and any other aspect of the employment relationship shall be based on the principle of equal opportunities, regardless of race, color, sex, religion, political affiliation, union membership, nationality, social origin, deficiencies or handicaps (ILO Conventions 100 and 111). 4. Safe and healthy working conditions A safe and hygienic working environment shall be provided, and best occupational health and safety practice shall be promoted, bearing in mind the prevailing knowledge of the industry and of any specific hazards. Appropriate attention shall be paid to occupational hazards specific to this branch of the industry and assure that a safe and hygienic work environment is provided for. Effective regulations shall be implemented to prevent accidents and minimize health risks as much as possible (following ILO Convention 155).
