OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP ... pursuing your passion for the outdoors! Would you like to share your love for the outdoors with others? Are you dependable, trustworthy, and hardworking? Do you demonstrate good judgment? Are you physically fit? Do you enjoy leading others as part of a cohesive team?

From guiding people to the top of a mountain to promoting environmental stewardship, careers in the field of Outdoor Leadership are wide-ranging and often adrenaline pumping. A few potential careers include adventure travel planners, outdoor and interpretive guides, wilderness instructors, resort recreation or camp leaders, park rangers, naturalists, and horse pack outfitters. This program introduces students to strategies for outdoor leadership, effective planning, decision-making, conflict resolution, teamwork, communication, as well as the necessary technical skills. The field of Outdoor Leadership is growing with an increasing demand for professionals to lead trips and activities all over the world. Working with people in exciting, yet often challenging and stressful situations, requires training. This program provides the wilderness and leadership skills needed to confidently take on the challenge.

What does it take?

A commitment to grow as a leader, a love of nature and the outdoors, an interest in environmental science and wildlife studies, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills.

What will I learn?

• Investigate ecosystems, cycles in nature, local environmental issues, and human impact on the planet • The technical skills necessary to plan, facilitate, and safely lead rock climbing, rappelling, backcountry travel, and ropes course experiences • Wilderness survival and navigation • Gain certifications in Wilderness First Aid and CPR • Earn up to 18 college credits as well as English 12, Science, and Lifetime Fitness credit

What will I do?

Participate in experiential outdoor leadership adventures and environmental studies. Plan and facilitate effective outdoor adventures and deliver lessons on environmental issues.
