N° 1—BOOSTS BRAIN POWER A foreign language is a whole new intricate system of rules, structures and lexis. Learning a new language means your brain has to cope with complexity as it makes sense of and absorbs new patterns. As our brains work out meaning, endeavoring to communicate, we develop key learning skills such as cognitive thinking and problem-solving. Highly developed critical thinking skills are a significant benefit both personally and professionally.

INTERNATIONAL ENTREPRENEUR SCHOLARSHIP AT LSB, 2017 Luxembourg School of Business is offering International Entrepreneur Scholarships for pursuing MBA program. Only Entrepreneurs holding a Bachelor degree, with minimum 2 years of professional experience and who have set up and are currently running their own business in Luxembourg or abroad are eligible to apply. The LSB Scholarship has the aim to give entrepreneurs the opportunity to further develop their managerial skills, foster critical thinking and emotional intelligence to help them on the journey of developing their own business. Luxembourg School of Business (LSB) was created in 2014 to provide, promote and advance top quality high-level international business education. The School was created by a group of academics with a strong entrepreneurial background and a successful track record of creating internationally accredited (AACSB) business schools. Scholarships are available for pursuing MBA program and can cover up to 75% of the tuition fee.

N° 3—ENHANCES THE ABILITY TO MULTITASK Multi-tasking is very stressful for those who are not used to it or don’t do it well. According to a study from the Pennsylvania State University, people who are multilingual and proficient at slipping from one language system to another are practiced at this very demanding work for the brain. People who have developed the ability to think in different languages and move from one to the other become much better multitaskers, reducing stress levels.

N° 4—SHARPENS THE MIND

AAI ONE WORLD SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRIES IN AUSTRIA Afro Asian Institute Salzburg is offering One World Scholarship Programme for the students of developing countries. Scholarships are available for pursuing postgraduate study programme and non-degree certificate programme at private universities. The One World Scholarship Programme is a partial scholarship aimed at students from Africa, Asia and Latin America who have come to Austria on their own initiative, in order to complete their education. The One World Scholarship programme is a comprehensive programme including social events and educational services accompanying the studies, measures for (re-)integration, and maintaining contact with former scholarship holders. Scholarships are available for pursuing postgraduate study programme and non-degree certificate programme at private universities. Includes extracurricular training, assistance with (re-)integration and the establishment of a global network of AAI scholars. How to Apply: Financial need: Univer sity co n sider s o w n inco m e, sa vings, o th er m eans o f support, profession and income of parents in order to select students who would hardly be able to successfully finish their studies without financial support. Evidence of good progress in studies: Go o d stu dy pr o gr ess do cum ented by th e transcript of records of current and past studies. In programmes without entry exams, students who have already completed at least one semester at an Austrian university have a distinctive advantage.

A study from Spain’s University of Pompeu Fabra revealed that multilingual people are better at observing their surroundings. They easily spot anything that is irrelevant or deceptive. They’re also better at spotting misleading information. The study was conducted comparing multilingual and monolingual subjects and the former notably had the edge. Is it any surprise that famous, fictional detective characters such as Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot are skilled linguists?

N° 5—KEEPS THE MIND SHARPER FOR LONGER Several studies have been conducted on this topic, and the results are consistent. For monolingual adults, the mean age for the first signs of dementia is 71.4. For adults who speak two or more languages, the mean age for those first signs is 75.5. Studies considered factors such as education level, income level, gender, and physical health, but the results were consistent.

N° 6—ENHANCES DECISION-MAKING According to a study from the University of Chicago, decisionmaking ability becomes an easier process for multilingual people. Aside from the rules and vocabulary that go with learning a foreign language, there are nuances and regional expressions that a student of language frequently judges for appropriateness and hidden meanings. Multi-linguals are more confident in their decision-making choices as a result of practice, practice, practice!

N° 7—THE FIRST LANGUAGE IS IMPROVED Learning a new language makes you more conscious of the nuts and bolts of your own language. Terms such as vocabulary, grammar, conjugation, comprehension, idioms and sentence structure become every day phrases, whereas your own language is probably absorbed more intuitively. Learning a new language also makes you a better listener as you are used to having to interpret meaning and judge nuances.

N° 8—IMPROVES PERFORMANCE IN OTHER ACADEMIC AREAS As a result of higher cognitive skills, studies show that the benefits of learning a new language include higher scores on standardized exams in math, Reading comprehension and vocabulary by multilingual students compared to the scores of monolingual students. Children may ask why they have to learn this language, but parents and teachers know better! Language skills boost your ability to do well in problem-solving tasks across the board, a fact recognized through compulsory foreign language learning curriculum in schools.

N° 10—PROVIDES BETTER CAREER CHOICES According to Eton Institute’s Language Development in the Workforce survey (September 2014), 89% of our clients stated that multilingual employees add value to the workforce and 88% stated that recruiting team members with language skills is important to their organization. PROGRAMA DE MAGÍSTER EN DIFERENTES ÁREAS EN UNIVERSIDADES CHILENAS Programa dirigido a funcionarios públicos, académicos, docentes o investigadores de universidades oficialmente reconocidas y a profesores que se desempeñen en los diversos ámbitos de la sociedad civil. Los candidatos deben ser mayores de 22 y menores de 60 años, contar con la admisión definitiva en uno de los centros contemplados en la convocatoria. La carta de admisión deberá acreditar la aceptación incondicional del postulante, fecha de inicio de las clases y duración del programa de estudios incluida la tesis y el examen de grado. Deben tener un promedio de notas universitarias de 3,7/5,0 y contar con mínimo 1 año de experiencia profesional (es decir, luego de haber obtenido el título universitario), en el campo de estudios.
