Could not get enough of this book! By S. Viti This book was tough to put down. The twist and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. The character development was intense. I found myself being disgusted by the main character as my frustration with the GREED in the banking industry grew with each page. Getting all of the great descriptions of the Chicago landscape made me feel like I was really there. Solidly recommended By Midwest Book Review Not every meeting of two starry eyed men and women results in romance, it can very well the polar opposite. "The I Can't Get Enough Club" tells the story of two second generation immigrants with high hopes for their future. Fran and Sonny, two overly ambitious individuals find each other at one another's throats over money and the desire to succeed. A novel with plenty of intriguing characters and events, "The I Can't Get Enough Club" is quite the read and a solidly recommended one. 0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I can't get enough either, I want a sequel By D. Sherwood This is an interesting book. Firstly in most works of fiction, there are goodies and baddies. Somewhere along the line the baddies get their comeuppance and the goodies live happily ever after. In this novel, the main protagonists are all baddies. This is therefore a 'spaghetti western' of modern novels. The heroine is not very nice. In fact, she is a nasty piece of work who is selfish, jealous, totally self consumed and without any level of redemption. Early on we get an insight as to why she is like this but one also has to assume that she has a pathological failure in her makeup that causes her to be so extreme. The hero (or should I say 'anti-hero') at least manages to be a pleasant easy to get on with sort of person but this is only the veneer that hides his true character which is as scheming and self obsessed as Fran (the heroine) if not also rather smarter and better able to manipulate people to do what he wants. If I continue the 'spaghetti western' theme, the book could also have been called 'The Good and the Ugly'.
As a businessman who has run, bought and sold several business's in his career I am familiar with many of the events and can confirm that it is realistic. Whether all of them happening to one set of characters in such a timeframe (rather than over an entire career) is another matter, but these things DO happen (most people would find this hard to believe) and for those who are not familiar with it, their view of bankers would be changed forever. Many might find the story far-fetched but this is a fiction which like many, takes what actually happens and just pushes it a bit further along from reality to make the story and scenario work. The author clearly has considerable experience in working with banks and I am left wondering if he actually has worked within a bank or has suffered a bank (or rather the persons working for them) acting in an dishonest manner. The way the story plays not only sustains the narrative and maintains the interest but educates the uninitiated in the machinations of a banks inner workings so that one is able to understand what is going on. Personally, I would like to know what happens next. So bring on the sequel! See all 5 customer reviews...
