I LOVE THE LORIEN LEGACIES, but this last book was UNNECESSARY. 4 EXTRA CHAPTERS could have been added to The Fate Of Ten. By Josue Rodriguez FIRST OF ALL, IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO BE SPOILED AND HAVE THE NOT SO GREAT ENDING TO THE SERIES RUINED, I SUGGEST YOU STOP READING RIGHT NOW!!! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!! DO NOT READ BELOW THIS POINT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!!! . . .
. . . . . . . . . . Alright.... Let's just say, UNNECESSARY. Don't get me wrong, I love the ENTIRE Lorien Legacies Series, but this book simply ran out of source material. It felt too.... forced?? Like when you're trying to go number 2 and you're just constipated and you're STILL trying to push it out?? Yeah, that's it. That's a perfect description for this book. The entire premise of the book is ONE FINAL CLASH against Setràkus Ra. The name of the book does not do it justice, it should have been called REDEMPTION OF SIX or something like that. To be honest, the series should have ended with The Fate of Ten. The reason being is that The Fate of Ten (TFOT) going forth, was just SO FAST PACED and ACTION packed. Towards the end of that book, when Six impaled Setràkus Ra and Ella had broken the connection between them, I thought that was IT for him. I thought that would be the end of his evil ways and the energy inside the temple would have been released and heal the world. But THIS IS NOT THE CASE. United as One is just MASSIVE BUILD-UP of irrelevant plot points and characters that are brought on board of the fight for absolutely NO REASON. They play NO MAJOR parts in the final battle. That being said, it's almost like this book was only good because of the cliff hangers at the end of each chapter, which kept you on edge for more. But that was it. When I say build-up, it just happens that this book does NOT elaborate much on the final battle. I read the entire book in a week, because I was bored. TFOT was just SO GREAT, that I read it in 1 day. Now the juicy part.... The new Legacies The New Legacies that were given to humans around the world were just LAME!! I mean, Sam was just being clumsy with his machines and did not really contribute much towards the end. At the end of Revenge of Seven, when he got his first legacy, I thought: "HOLY SMOKES!!! SAM IS GOING TO BECOME BAD-@SS." Unfortunately, that did not happen. He was still his dull, ordinary, clumsy self for the majority of the story. The new kids that got legacies and ended up popping up in Niagara Falls seemed to be too cocky and got themselves killed. Big chunk of them, anyway.... I liked Ran. She kept her cool at all times and spoke only when necessary. Daniela ends up staying behind the lines taking care of kids... which I didn't really appreciate. She was a GREAT asset to the Garde to have her stay put in the final battle. The whole "WHO WILL BECOME AS STRONG AS PITTACUS LORE" business... Really, I thought it was gonna be either Ella, or Marina, because their characters started out weak and oppressed, and they continued to show us that appearances can be VERY deceiving. Marina will forever be my favorite!!! NO ONE EVER REALLY BECAME Pittacus, it was only ASSUMED that Four did. They didn't elaborate much on that either....
NINE deserved more book time.... Marina deserved more book time.... I was OK with how they handled Five and how his story came to an end. Seemed fitting for Five. Six and Sam... I'm not even gonna get into that, this is WAR. Not lovey dovey BS. OK, now..... the ENDING. *sigh* It was just TOO SLOW!!!!! I mean, 6 BOOKS leading up to this moment and it was the LAMEST finale I have ever read. As I said before at the beginning of the Review. I LOVE THE LORIEN LEGACIES, but this last book was UNNECESSARY. So, I also mentioned this book is just build-up and it bothers me that the final clash took place within the course of 4 chapters... I mean, 4 extra chapters could have been added to TFOT. If you're expecting a big ending between Four and Setràkus, don't get your hopes up... Four is half dead most of the time in this book. I feel like they should have killed Setràkus Ra in TFOT because (spoiler alert) . . . . . . . . . SIX ENDS UP KILLING HIM ANYWAY. John didn't even get angry at Six for Sarah's death... they didn't even talk about it. Mark could have just died in the battle at the Temple. Phiri Dun Ra and Adam could have had their showdown at the temple too.... I dunno, the whole thing just felt too weak for a final book. That's just me.... aside from all that, yeah, it was OK. Sarabia I read the first two books years ago since after the movie I really wanted to find out more about Six. Then I forgot about the series for several years. When I got the urge to read more, I quickly devoured the books that had been written so far. Then I had to wait until this book came out, which I'm not used to doing. As soon as I started reading though, I felt I was among good friends and couldn't put it down since I was totally invested in their lives. This whole series has been an amazing journey and full of things that will stick with me for life. For instance, I found it fascinating to learn how all 9 cepans responded so differently to the same situation. And the one who was the "least prepared and trained" actually did the best job. Makes me want to do well with what I've been given! Another thing that will stick with me is how easy it is to get your thinking messed up. Although you know Five is on the wrong side, when you read his journey it makes so much sense that you totally see how he ended up working with the Mogs. At the end though, he realizes how duped he had been and what Setrakus Ra was really like, and I can't help but root for him to do
well. I also love how John is a guy of good character qualities, one that you can't help but like. I think more books need people you can look up to! It's hard to watch him become a little hard, but totally understandable when you realize the loss he's grieving. No more numbers...A fitting end By John Flowers After watching the movie I became interested and found and read all the main story books and have enjoyed them and have looked forward to the next one.What i liked about this book in particular is the devolpment of the plot and how it accomplishes quite a bit more than what usually what'd take a whole book to do.The maturation and growth of the characters is also interesting.Especially John Smith and how him and others handle loss/depression which he literally goes through all 5 stages of.And how he comes out of it stronger. Also the final battle actually had me concerned(Which is rare.) as there are actual consequences.I have to say the ending while almost abrupt is somewhat fitting. (Somewhat reminiscent of Harry Potter in a way)As with any series that someone enjoys and keeps up on especially over several years for me I'm very happy with this.While with any work there are always problems which for me were too minor and plot related to speak of.I sincerely hope that a sequel to i am number four comes out seeing as the market for teen romance action series is thin ATM All in all I'd give this a 9.0 out of 10.
