Review "As Mexico's media outlets stopped reporting on the cartels and the government remained silent, Blog del Narco, launched in March 2010, began to fill the void. The blog featured raw photos and videos of executions, and gun battles uploaded by anonymous contributors. Within months, Blog del Narco was one of the most visited websites in Mexico with 3m monthly visitors. The blog documented the drug war in all its horror: photos of decapitated heads, mutilated torsos and other stomach-jarring acts of violence committed by organized crime to induce terror among the population." -The Guardian " ...the people who keep the blog running risk their lives to do so. The book, which will be published in both English and Spanish by Feral House, will include a selection of the most relevant posts and pictures published between March 2, 2010, when the blog first started, and February 2011. Choosing to remain fully anonymous for safety reasons, the blog’s editor finally agreed to talk about her work, the threats and the trials she and the site’s programmer have faced in order to keep this project alive for so long." -VICE Magazine "Truth is risky, and sometimes it’s also harsh. Here is the reality of the Mexican Drug War, created in part by American demand for the products controlled by the cartels and their government collaborators." -Hispanically Speaking News "Compiled by the anonymous (out of legitimate concern for their lives) reporters of Mexico’s Blog del Naco site, DYING FOR THE TRUTH is a truly frightening book. Not just for the abundantly graphic full-color true crime photographs arrayed throughout, but because it condenses an era of utter present-day terror into a deceptively compact yet alarmingly comprehensive volume. Even the inside covers, with their disaster area-style maps of death tolls, by province, throughout the exponentially escalating drug war are startling. And for Mexico this is not past tense or pulp fiction, it’s every day." - Paniscus Review

"The book is horrifying, but the group's noble goals-to reveal the brutal acts committed in their country by the often glamorously-portrayed cartels-require a tremendous amount of bravery and resolve." -Publishers Weekly "If it were a work of literary artifice, Dying for the Truth would be wildly and stunningly successful. Like JG Ballard doing bad acid after a three-day meth bender, the anonymous contributors drag readers through a nightmarish and surrealistic Grand Guignol via a multimedia mix of torture/execution videos, interrogation transcripts (almost always followed by the execution of the prisoners by heavily armed masked men in paramilitary garb), gruesome atrocity exhibition photos (skinned faces sewn onto soccer balls, anyone?), charts and graphs, and the day-by-day killings, bombings, shootouts and busts that constitute Mexico's drug wars." --Phillip Smith, Drug Chronicle Definitely not one for the squeamish, this horrific expose of the Mexican drug wars serves a different (but more important) purpose to anything else on this list. --Bizarre Magazine

DYING FOR THE TRUTH: UNDERCOVER INSIDE THE MEXICAN DRUG WAR PDF

What is the value of telling the truth? For independent blog reporters in the midst of the Mexican Drug War, it's as important as their very lives, which are threatened on a daily basis. Blog del Narco is a heavily visited website, both in Mexico and the rest of North America, and it reveals the horrible savagery of the drug cartels. More than this, it also speaks of corruption and violence from the government itself. Many journalists in Mexico have been killed and silenced. Blog del Narco is not run by professional journalists, but it's the only forum for the true story of the violent drug war. Dying for the Truth is the first and only book release that contains both text and images, many of them gruesome, from this vital public forum. This book contains both the original Spanish-language posts in addition to their English translations. Truth is risky, and sometimes it's also harsh. Here is the reality of the Mexican Drug War, created in part by American demand for the products controlled by the cartels and their government collaborators. The Blog del Narco authors live anonymously and under threat in Mexico and aspire to relocate to the United States.

You get what you pay for By JAGQ Ok, this is my first review in amazon, I hope you find it helpful. Before making the purchase I was a bit skeptical about the content it may have. I am a citizen from Mexico and I am well aware of the violence and drug wars occurring in the country. The book it’s a compilation of most of the articles published in the website of “Blog del Narco”. However, not all of the articles are in the book; furthermore they have only published those articles in the book which are more sensationalists for the media and public in general (this of course including the pictures as it happened with no censure). If you are a person who is not aware of the matters that took place in Mexico from 2006 – 2011 this will give you more than “an idea” of what happened. This is the story of a country that declared war against drug cartels and went out of hands in many fronts (police departments, special units, military and finally the presidency). As a Mexican I am glad that we finally confronted the drug

cartels, but of course, sad that wasn’t a confrontation with idea or direction, but more with “eliminate the cartels”. The book will not state the bigger problems: USA rate of drug consumption, Mexico strategic geographical location to traffic drugs into USA, and suppliers from south and central America. This book is basicalle an introduction, set of articles and conclusion. As for the authors there are nothing descriptive as they are trying to cover her identity and most likely they are pursuing the truth that most media called a “citizenship psychosis” whiles them (media) denied publishing this in case of retaliation from any cartels. In the end it’s a good book to read before going to bed and know what happened in Mexico. As for the future that await us… I still haven’t met a person with the crystal ball to foretell me the future. Hope you find it helpful. 24 of 28 people found the following review helpful. What the Government Doesn't Want You To Know By Alfredo Reyes Nothing I've read up to this point prepared me for this book. Least of all the actual newspapers! Seeing the photographs and images in the context of the news stories and events has completely changed my perception of Mexico today, and the heroic journalist or journalists who risked their lives to tell this story. It is shocking to me that human beings can do this to each other. And that no one seems to be able to do anything about it. The gruesome photographic evidence juxtaposed with the just-the-facts stories, plus behind it all a desperate cry for justice, has created an artful book that will change everyone who reads it. When you get this, don't just skim through it for the photos, but make sure you take the time to read the entries in order--and a story of escalating lawlessness and terrorism unfolds. 10 of 12 people found the following review helpful. A MUST READ! By Dolores I have never come across a book quite like this one. While reading it you genuinely feel like you are getting the real honest, un-adulterated, non watered-down or corrupted version of the news in Mexico. This drug war effects every person on the planet, as I learned from reading the book. It is a huge, impactful, and important current event that is almost completely hidden from the media. Never before have I seen the the unveiling of such horrific and real truth that was otherwise so deeply obscured. Perhaps the most important book I've ever read. See all 38 customer reviews...
