A Lay Minister's Guide to the Book of Common Prayer By phillip This is an older version. The same author, Clifford W. Atkinson, has a newer version, 1988, with the title A LAY MINISTER'S Guide to the Book of Common Prayer that is much better than the older version. I bought both and would recommend the revised version for those who serve as Eucharistic Minister's and Lay Readers for the Episcopal Church of America. Since the older version and the revised version have the same title, I recommend the 1988 version for a much improved and updated text complete with outlines for services. I further recommend membership in The Order of St. Vincent for advanced studies. 6 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Needs updating By A Real Believer While the book contains a helpful summary of the basics, it was published originally in 1977 and revised in 1988. Therefore, it quotes the old version of Canon III.3, which was revised and replaced in 2003.
