It was the first book I ordered when I received my candle. I also ordered the audible selection so that I could listen listen to it when I don't have the ability to sit and read a book. It is also one of my favorite movies. As they say the book is always better than the movie and in this case the book and the movie are equal partners. I have read this book several times and thoroughly enjoy the storyline. If you ever dream

of finding a utopia where time does not matter this is a book for you. It haseverything you need for a good story, adventure, suspense, love, fantasy and very thought-provoking. Several of James Hilton's books have been made into movies and to me that is a great sign of an awesome book. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves to read. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. an oldy, but goody novel By RJT This may be a novel originally written and published in the 1930s, but it is still an enjoyable read today. As children, many of us had heard of Shangri-La, a place beyond our wildest dreams of peace and beauty, but Hilton took the idea and wrote a book about what might be. His characters are well developed and the story moves along nicely and ends in a way I did not expect. Many of the characteristics of the people stranded in this Shangri-La have vices, desires, feelings akin to our own in the 21st century. This is thought provoking and I did go back to read the first 2 chapters once I finished to be sure I had the backstory correct in my mind. I'll read this one again. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Solid Read - Not the Movie's Script By karma magers A story with much to consider in light of today's world wide angst. I found it deeply compelling and enlightened. The movie, with Ronald Coleman, has always invoked a longing for Shangri Lai to be a reality. This book delves more deeply into the intellectual and emotional benevolence that such a society would present to a shattered world. James Hilton provides a philosophical reasoning that makes one desire to follow the training his characters present to the reader. As our world splinters and cracks about us we can only hope for the isolated Shangri Lai that holds the good things of mankind in safe keeping. See all 464 customer reviews...
