Most helpful customer reviews 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An excellent addition to the Library Living Philosophers By Charles Pigden An excellent addition to the Library Living Philosophers. Putnam comes across as not only brilliant but big-hearted. His replies to criticisms are models of their kind, ditto his intellectual autobiography. As an avid fan of the young Putnam and an opponent the middle Putnam I am glad to say that the later Putnam returned to the realist fold. I once lamented (wrt the 'internal realist' Putnam ) 'Oh How art thou fallen from Heaven Oh Lucifer, son of the morning!' But now it's a matter of “I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.” Putnam thankfully saved his realist soul alive.
