About the Author Bob Haak retired from the staff of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam in 1986 after a career spanning more than thirty years. In 1963 he became chief curator of the Amsterdam Historical Museum and he was largely responsible for the construction and furnishing of the museum, which was completed in 1975. My only complaint is that the book/tome is so large that it can't be held up for long, even by readers much younger than I, I'd guess. School Necessity By BDoubleU SO I had to buy this book for my Art class at Penn State, so I cannot say that it was a purchase made out of my own yearning for the product. I was pleasantly surprised however, when I found myself checking the book out when I was NOT in class...a definite oddity for me. I found this to be a very comprehensive book that teaches art all on its own with some amazing insight and wonderful reproductions of the original pieces of art.
