A bloody good, heart-warming novella By Fiktshun Bloody Valentine by Melissa de la Cruz is a novella in the Blue Bloods series. It consists of three beautifully written short stories each with a focus on matters of the heart - hence the title. While it is not necessary to have read all the books in this series before reading this novella, it is recommended, as two of the three stories relate to events that take place in the previous two books. The first story is about Schuyler Van Alen's friend and familiar Oliver Hazard-Perry and Freya, a
character who will be the focus of a new series by the author entitled Witches of East End, due out in the summer of 2011. It is a wonderful story that fills in some of the missing pieces on what's going on with Oliver at the same time as other things are occurring in Misguided Angel. The second story brings us back to 1985 where we get to meet a young Allegra Van Alen and the human familiar she falls in love with, Bendix Chase. This is a great addition as it gives further insight into Schuyler's parents and just how she came to be. The final story, and the longest, is about Schuyler Van Alen and Jack Force and their bonding ceremony which occurs after the events in Misguided Angel. This is a great way to close this book as it gives readers another opportunity to see Jack and Schuyler and witness their love for one another. It bridges the long gap between the previous book and the next book in the series, Lost in Time, which won't be out until October 2011. Melissa de la Cruz is a superb writer and even though these are only short stories, each one embraces the elegance of her writing. These stories are heart-warming, with a little action, romance and sensuality included to make this a perfect book to enjoy in plenty of time for Valentine's Day. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. By M from California I knew nothing about this book before I bought it, so imagine my surprise when I first saw it, any smaller, & it would be a pamphlet. It's only 3 short stories, & I read them all in a couple of hours. The stories themselves were OK, but the first one is only there to setup the new Witches of East End series, the second one is about Allegra & Charles & while it's an interesting look at the past, I don't understand the point or where it fits in. The final one is just to fill in until the next Blue Bloods book & the Wolf Pact series. After Misguided Angel (which was a fairly small book itself), I feel like Melissa De La Cruz is just writing little bits to try & keep the series going. All 3 stories could have been shortened & been made part of Misguided Angel with no problem. The next book isn't due until 10/11, I don't know if I'll still remember the books I've already read then, especially if it's another tiny little book. See all 115 customer reviews...
