The narrative is fast paced with no lulls in the action. I never realized the wide variety of environmental work GP took part in. One of the more heart-rending accounts, was the wholesale evacuation of a Marshall Islanders village from one atoll to another. The Islanders were exposed to nuclear radiation from US testing, and were having a myriad of physical problems. GP took it upon themselves to move the Islanders so their future children wouldn't be exposed to the radiation hazard. Damningly, the US government just left the Islanders to their own devices before GP showed up. Peter said this evacuation was the most satisfying experience he's had. Peter describes in detail the bombing of the rainbow Warrior by the French defense forces in Auckland, NZ. One crew member was killed, but the sinking of the ship could have easily killed the entire crew. Peter said that he can always count on the French to over-react to almost every situation. It's a chilling account. Most recently, Peter and his GP crew were arrested for piracy off the coast of Murmansk Russia. The Russians forcibly took over the ship against all maritime law. Peter and the crew face over 10 years in prison. Peter gives a detailed description of Russian prisons, both in Murmansk, and St. Petersburg. Fortunately, their [light became widely known world wide, and many influential leaders, including the Pope, called for their release. Luckily, the Sochi Olympics were about to begin, and Russia did not want to face any more embarrassing situations, so the crew was freed. I lost count of the number of jails Peter has been thrown into. He could write a travelers guide to the world's jails with star ratings. Pick up this book, and start reading.
