A short fictional description of the horrors of the Korean War. Michener, as always, is a superb story teller. BTW, there is a village called Toko-Ri, just outside the gates of Camp Hovey in the 2nd Infantry Division's AO. But Michener's bridges are fiction and have no relationship to the actual village. Somehow Michener uses this one episode of an Air Force pilot to give us a picture of the awesome misery of that war.
