As a woeful story of economic collapse at the hands of the shoe shop industry unfolds, Arthur meets Lintilla -- for whom fate has in store a very unhappy marriage -- and Marvin gets to be a hero once again. All this culminates in a meeting with the Man in the Shack who apparently runs the Universe. As good as the first!(IMO) By Miguel A Spain This was a follow up to his "hit" Science Fiction Radio Series "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" I believe it came out a little after the [unfinished by due to deadlines was released anyways] book adaptation of the radio series. This version follows the events of Primary Phase, where Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect are stranded on Prehistoric earth. Also Zaphod Beeblebrox has his own MAJOR plot, with his quest to find Zarniwoop. The series is IMO just as funny as the previous series, though not as original(since most of the original ideas were in Primary Phase).
This version is something heavily tampered with. Which saddens me. For one thing, since the book was unfinished the last 2 parts of the radio series were put in the end of the radio adaption of this, ruining any chance of a sequel that actually acknowledged the events here happened(though Tertiary Phase is still really good) So when they did make a sequel after a few eternities, everything in this series was pretty much just a psychotic episode on Zaphod's part. This series is REALLY good though despite the problems. So pick it up if you're a fan of Primary Phase, the 80's TV series, or the Books(and maybe if you're a fan of the movie). 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. The next 6 episodes take up where the first phase left off and take you in a completely new direction from the books, TV series or the movie. Some things will be familiar, but, others are completely new. Excellent Audio Quality - But Episodes (CDs) In Wrong Sequence By John A. Lind Took me a bit to sort this out after listening to all three CDs as the story line made no sense at the end of the 3rd CD. The Secondary Phase consists of six episodes (Fits 7th - 12th). Two episodes are on each of the CDs which are labeled 1, 2 and 3 (of 3). The 2nd and 3rd CDs are out of sequence. CD #2 contains the last two episodes and CD #3 contains the middle two episodes. Change the order of the CDs to 1 - 3 - 2, and the episodes are in the proper order. Verified this with Wikipedia synopses of the Secondary Phase episodes. Note that this defect may only be in a production lot (batch) and not all. The 9th episode begins with a short recap followed by Ford, Arthur and Zaphod in conversations with each other on board the Heart of Gold (spacecraft). The 11th episode begins with a recap followed by a conversation between Arthur Dent and Lentila (female archaeologist) on the surface of the planet. Excellent restoration and transfer of original audio to CD. Nicely divided into 10-12 tracks per episode for playing convenience allowing skipping through to specific scenes like one would with Scenes on a DVD or Blu-ray movie. Join episode tracks together when importing into iTunes library to store as complete episodes. Deducted a star for the CD/episode sequence issue (on the one I received) - but only one given the excellent audio restoration of a radio program recorded nearly 35 years ago.
